even stooping so low as to claim that his father (41) is in agreement with the moonbats re: the behavior of his son (43).

Exactly.

All true. Which only emphasizes Peggy's point that freedom of speech was the air that those people on the platform breathed. Dramatized by the humility displayed by the sitting President, under egregious partisan attack where it should not be expected.

She is actually praising Mr. Bush. And being criticized here as if she had participated in, or agreed with, the attack.

I'm not interested in your Freepmail.
Now can you, or can you not, explain exactly what bothers you about her column?
(Calling Peggy Noonan a "dumb *itch" is not an acceptable response.)

What it shows is that she was dead wrong when she wrote:

But it is also true that when you attack him or his son from the left he doesn't get mad because in his heart he kinda thinks you're right.

Here's GHWB's actual reaction:

"In terms of the political shots at the president who was sitting there with his wife, I didn't like it and I thought it was kind of ugly frankly," the former president said in an exclusive radio interview with CBS News White House correspondent Peter Maer. "Anybody that shoots at the president of the United States at a funeral, I just didn't appreciate that," Mr. Bush added.

Peggy wants to be on the cool side of things and Bush is not cool. He is ordinary to dull socially and this is more than poor glamorous Peggy can endure! All her liberal friends make fun of him and bully him because he is nerdy - does'e't "not inhale" (wink, wink), doesn't get bjs in the oval office and, God forbid - HE DID NOT EVEN SEE BAREBACK MOUNTAIN! A New York snob such as Peggy can't be seen hanging out with a nerd like Bush. He has no slickness like the cool guys New York Metrosexuals do.

I mistakenly posted this in response to Post #49 thinking it was a response to my Post #48. I failed to look at who it was addressed to. I didn't intend to answer for Harpu, and I certainly wasn't attempting to take a cheap shot at someone I agree with.

Like I said in the FReepmail, dumbass; "To support your concerns about by concerns...why don't outline why you feel I'm out of line about this dumb bitch's column" if you're so sure I'm wrong?

Ooops...to be sure that you're not too offended, let me rephrase; "dumbass" should read "uninformed anus". Sorry, if you are offended.

I agree. GHW Bush failed. Failed utterly. And his own words betray the willfulness of the act. He could have stopped the clintons dead but didn't.

The truth of the matter is this: At best, this was a cluelessness borne of patrician sensibilities and misplaced honor; at worst, it was putting aesthetics and personal loyalties above loyalty to country.

The mutual protection racket writ large is alive and well in D.C. Post-9/11, the professional pol is a luxury we can no longer afford.

LEHRER: President Bush, your closing statement, sir.

PRESIDENT BUSH: Three weeks from now--two weeks from tomorrow, America goes to the polls and you're going to have to decide who you want to lead this country ...

On foreign affairs, some think it's irrelevant. I believe it's not. We're living in an interconnected world...And if a crisis comes up, ask who has the judgment and the experience and, yes, the character to make the right decision?

And, lastly, the other night on character Governor Clinton said it's not the character of the president but the character of the presidency. I couldn't disagree more. Horace Greeley said the only thing that endures is character. And I think it was Justice Black who talked about great nations, like great men, must keep their word.

And so the question is, who will safeguard this nation, who will safeguard our people and our children? I need your support, I ask for your support. And may God bless the United States of America.

(Applause)

THE CLINTONS--AMERICA'S BIGGEST BLUNDER

agreed.why all the surprise and outrage? Lowery did what the family wanted ( they all stood and applauded) It's their show, like it or not.Carter on the other hand, was out of line. (IMHO) The president is a big boy. He can handle it.

Well, Ok. You have a point. I don't know what else they could have done but sit there graciously. GWB famously (and inexplicably) made faces on TV while John Kerry was talking. That didn't go over too well (then again, the election turned out ok.)But what else could they have done?

Interesting POV, actually . . .

I thought so too.

But I still think Carter is an idiot. If you lived through his presidency, it's hard to think otherwise.

I agree that Peggy has more than passed her prime, but I still don't get why she is received with such outright hostility here. If you hate her, why post her articles? There are plenty of people who spew actual venom to choose from. It's almost like you don't realize that she was being sarcastic when she said she "loves" the Clintons. Trust me on this one: She still hates Hillary, and she still knows that Bill is a dirtbag.

"If you hate her, why post her articles?

I didn't post her article, I put up her article's headline so the article could not be posted!
