Noonan is pretty blunt about Jimmy:

A former president, a softly gray-haired and chronically dyspeptic gentleman who seems to have judged the world to be just barely deserving of his presence, pointedly insulted a sitting president who was, in fact, sitting right behind him.

Let's face it, the title of "Worst president in US history" has some fierce competition:

• Clinton
  • Waco
  • Filegate
  • Black Hawk Down
  • Travelgate
  • Monicagate and "the meaning of 'is'"
  • etc, etc, etc.
  Carter
  • gas lines (due to continued price controls)
  • stagflation
  • loss of a major ally (of all countries, Iran!).
  Johnson
  • Welfare as a "right"; "Great Society" wasted $$$ trillions, to worse than no effect
  • escalation of involvement in Vietname from a few thousand to 500,000 servicemen - and (politically) lost the war.

Sorta makes you wonder if the republic can stand one more Democratic president, doesn't it?
