The Governor's School of North Carolina describes itself as "program for intellectually gifted high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses." But one North Carolina couple is suffering some after effects of their son's involvement in the program. Jim and Beverly Burrows say after their son attended a Governor's School seminar called "The New Gay Teenager," he began telling them he was unsure of his "sexual orientation."
The parents believe the seminar was intentionally scheduled as the last optional one before classes ended in order to leave a strong, lasting impression on the students and bypass any parental notification about the seminar.
Jim Burrows says he noticed a big difference in his otherwise normal son upon his return from the school.
"He [said he] was thinking now that he perhaps was gay -- and of course I was floored by this [pronouncement] and was, like, 'where did this come from?' This kind of came out of left field," the dad says. After questioning his son for an extended period, Burrows says he discovered the source. "I found out that this was as a result of this seminar."
According to Burrows, his son was instructed by two openly homosexual staff members of the Governor's School to question his sexuality as well as Bible passages that condemn homosexuality. And the students were also encouraged by instructors to start a Gay Straight Alliance club at their schools, he says.
The North Carolina dad explains that his son's subsequent struggle with homosexuality has turned his family upside down. "As far as our family is concerned, the damage has already been done," he laments. "There's no way that we can go back and undo what has been done."
Still, Mr. Burrows feels he needs to warn other parents of the homosexual indoctrination his son encountered at the Governor's School. "[I]f I can keep one other family from having to go through this, then all this trouble has been worthwhile," he says.
7:19 a.m. Post "The Gay Agenda"
Actually -you made a point of posting your opinion -- So you do care. It just happens that your 'care' is morally liberal NOT conservative...
Why?
***************
Ah, yes. Someone who has no interest in the subject not only visits a thread which is clearly about the issue, but then posts to that thread. Who did you say was protesting too much?
Idiots is what you and your pal are.
You dont have to dig through the dumpster to know whats in it. This is an argument that is used to death and is completely irrelevant and quite weak. Just because one lacks firsthand experience doesnt rule him out as a legitimate contributor to the discussion.
Every day of the year people discuss openly about how some team should do something better in pro sports, most have never played that pro sport yet I assume you dont engage in that sort of hypocrisy right?
So I guess Abraham Lincoln had no business with that pesky emancipation proclamation, right? After all, he wasnt black so how could he be in tune with the black communities desires?
If this kid suddenly went queer, then it has nothing to do with the state sponsored program.
You can not possibly believe that it had nothing to do with the program. Every person is indoctrinated to something, through persuasion, admiration, saturation or whatever, but the fact is that if you are constantly bombarded with something it changes you.
Why do you like the sports teams you like? B/c you liked the coach, or did your dad like the team. Why do you wear the clothes you wear? Why do you speak the way you do? Write the way you do? It couldnt possibly be because you were influenced in any way right... My comment was made because it is insanity or ignorance to think that the kid, being blasted with homosexual teaching, was not affected by anything and simply chose to be gay or he already was. Ultimately, I agree that he chose to experiment or whatever, but, he was led along (as are many confused kids) like a lamb to the slaughter... Of course he was affected... its impossible to be unaffected completely.
Well at least my son is not gay like their kid is. Yours probably is (that is if you even have any). I am not an idiot. Who are you to say that to me.
I can hardly believe the number of commments parroting "gay" agenda talking points on this thread. It's actually quite mind boggling.
The homosexual agenda promoters are out in full swing today.
"Sexuality is a matter of taste. I just don't understand why some people seem to make it so over-riding important.
I couldn't care less what other people do sexually - as long as it doesn't affect me.
When I hear people rant and rave about homosexuals - I'm reminded of the Shakespeare quote - "Methinks the lady protests too much."
When I read comments like the above I know that the person making them is here to promote the "gay" agenda, since that extremely lame "argument" is a standard, classic, overused talking point.
Well, in that case, anyone against the legalization of drugs is a closet drug user or wants to be; anyone against child porn secretly is a child porn addicts; anyone against the legalization of prostitution uses prostitutes or wishes to do so, etcetcetc.
Well, Tokemup, why are YOU here on this thread if you're so laissez faire and all that? Not too tolerant, are you? Where's your fondness for diversity and allowing for all viewpoints?
You think his comment is okay?
Well -you miss the point completely... The premise of your statement is severely flawed -I thought I read somewhere that you stated you were a Catholic?
Maybe you have been brainwashed by the homosexual agenda?
Let me attempt to explain to you -we are all born predisposed to sin -we do not have to CHOOSE to sin...
As such -it is sad that some in society will tell people that homosexual activity is okay because 'they were born that way' or 'they have no choice but to act upon their urges' -- this message of lies removes the aspect of human dignity and authentic freedom from individuals and objectively states that the individuals are no better than animals e.g. 'homosexual' penguins...
So -by analogy the solution for alcoholics is not to 'cure' alcoholism -it is to educate on the negative effects of alcoholism and provide people the tools, the hope, the support, and the motivation to change their behavior -to CHOOSE not to take a drink -- in the case of those suffering from the homosexual disorder -to choose not to engage in homosexual activity...
I am still in Winston-Salem. In 1975, the Salem College campus was where GS was held. I get back there from time to time during sessions.
Yes -there is nothing better then the smell of a liberal troll being zotted in the morning -- IT smells like victory!!!!
All I said was that I would not want my daughter to marry an ex-gay. I still think it is sad and that has nothing to do with being Catholic. As a Catholic homosexuality is a sin, but I can still think the situation is sad.
:-D
He didn't have to go; he chose to. He could have attended a different seminar.
I don't necessarily think the seminar was appropriate for the Governor's School, but can you think of any reason that a heterosexual teenager might have for attending such a session?
Would you marry an ex-gay? Would you want one of your children to marry an ex-gay?
