Rep. Tom Tancredo (R.-Colo.) didn’t hold back in his criticism of President Bush this morning at the Conservative Political Action Conference—delivering what amounted to a presidential stump speech that could have easily been delivered in New Hampshire or Iowa.
Tancredo attacked the administration for its support of a guest-worker program for illegal aliens and its big-spending ways on education and Medicare prescription drugs.
“It is the President who is out of step with his party, not Tom Tancredo,” the Colorado Republican said to applause at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Northwest Washington, D.C.
Tancredo called for the repeal of two programs offered by President Bush: the No Child Left Behind Act and the Medicare prescription drug program. Both expanded the cost of government and drew the scorn of conservatives in Congress.
Tancredo said the Big Government policies of the Bush administration need to be halted. He said conservatives must return the GOP to a “party of individual rights and shouldn’t afraid to say it.”
One thing is true. Unlike a majority of inside the Beltway politicos, on the immigration issue about 80% of Americans agree with Tancredo. NO AMNESTY, frontdoor or backdoor!
OTOH, Tanc is very skilled at raising money. Pat and Bay are getting rich off of the money he is raising for Team America PAC.
He's very good at banging pots and pans. Actually having an effect on legislation -- that's another story.
Tancredo doesn't have the votes to get his Bill passed. Nothing wrong with speaking out, but if he actually wants to improve on the status quo (not too difficult), then he'd be better off working with the President on passing legislation instead of posturing. Instead, he's going to find himself out of the room when the deals are cut.
Last December those of us who petition our Representatives opened the eyes of the House.
Tom Tancredo was finally acknowledged as the lead in actual public opinion against the selling out of our country by King Jorge.

Tancredo just won't appeal to a thrid of the country who believe that there should be no countries or borders. He also probably won't appeal to another third of the country that wants to hire cheap labor without guilt. I'd say, unfortunately, his chances of being POTUS are near zero barring a terrorist nuclear attack in the US.
The Quisling Room is one room I hope he is never invited into.
Quisling: a synonym for traitor, someone who collaborates with the invaders of his country.
Go Tom Go! He can't win but he can help shape the issues for 08.

You do know that a majority of Congressmen are opposed to real immigration reform. Most want amnesty. And like PresBush, most Beltway politicos favor a conintued flow of cheap illegal labor into the US. Appeasing GOP business donors, while they pander for Hispanic voters. Tancreo's proposal, HR3333, "Rewarding Employers that Abide by the Law and Guaranteeing Uniform Enforcement to Stop Terrorism Act of 2005 or the REAL GUEST Act of 2005", may not be popular with a majority of US Congressmen, but the American people will have the last word on this matter.
His "posturing" has been improving the situation, by forcing the rest of the party to introduce tougher and tougher bills. Of course, they still contain amnesty, which is why they should never be approved. But he's moving things in the right direction.
That, of course, is why so many of the quislings hate his guts. I fully encourage him to keep up the good work.
That's how you get noticed in politics.
Btw. Bush wants amnesty. Tancredo wants to enforce exisitng American law.
I live in the Bay Area, so that doesn't sound so good. However, I am in agreement with you that this country needs to get serious about these issues, or, continue to ignore them at their own peril. I don't disagree with Tancredo, I am just a realist looking at the country's current politcal climate.
Tancredo plays sacrificial "chase rabbit".

We all know Tancredo doesn't carry water for the administration, and it's decidedly doubtful he could carry even one state in an election!
Guess nobody's reading Tancredo's press releases, he has to go to the stump.
I don't disagree with the poll numbers, but, I bet if they would frame questions around how you would prevent illegal immigation and the consequences of such actions, the numbers would get much more squishy. There are those beholden to cheap labor.
Many people see this issue as only preventing terrorists from getting into the country. It is also about protecting jobs and a whole host of other things like taxes, healthcare costs, social security costs, and cultural issues.
