The prospect that the Islamic Republic of Iran could acquire nuclear weapons ought to be too serious for it to succumb to political spin, espicially from within the U. S. intelligence community. But 'leakers' seeking to embarrass the Bush Administration have been furiously spinning the extraordinary information obtained over the past eighteen months from an Iranian 'walk-in' about Iran's nuclear intentions, seeking to downplay its importance and suggesting that the intelligence community is divided over how to interpret it. HERE IS WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT THE EXTRAORDINARY DOCUMENTS PROVIDED BY THE WALK-IN ON A LAPTOP COMPUTER. THEY INCLUDE...........

Thanks to a dumb reporter at the Washington Post, we just gave it to the Iranians for thirty-five cents.... Dirty SOB's!!

Timmerman over-reaches here. While it's valuable to know that your design won't work, that is a far cry from the WaPo giving them the plans for something that will work.

I heard the author of "Tehran Rising" speak yesterday. He said that most intelligence agencies think Iran is 5-15 years away from nukes. Israeli intelligence however believes they are 1-2 years away. Further, he said that diplomacy with Iran's current president is a waste of time because he is a fanatical believer that believes Iran will rise to prominence after a major war. The guy believes in the second coming of the Mahdi within the next couple of years. He has also said that he would share nuclear technology with any Islamic country. Israel will not let this happen... period. Their timeline is 1-2 years... so get ready for a show.

The author and the intelligence agencies are wrong.

Iran is only months away.

I concur. This 5-10 years stuff is dangerous nonsense.

From what I heard last week is that the "enrichment" is now already completed.

Not sure what else is needed after that.

The good news is that they're unlikely to send a suicide truck-driver across Iraq and hence the missile is probably their best bet.

Why would they take a chance on a missile when they could just put the bomb in a ship and set it off in the port of Haifa?

Timmerman has been trouble for some time now and that he's leaking important information to let the Iranians know what will and won't work should be reason enough to put a sock in him and lock him away for a while.

Have I mentioned that I hate the media? I'd like to think there were days when leakers would approach the media and the media had enough sense not to print some things, but I'm probably being naive.

You're right, that's always a hazard when you run a port city. But Mossad has...means...of checking stuff going in and out of there...they've been playing this game a long time.

Haifa is, by reports, constructing a LNG terminal. That's a potential bang durn near as big as a nuke. Me, I'd put it a long way offshore...

Sure hope so. A missile could be easily shot down before it reached Israel. A nuke on a ship could destroy a port even if detonated miles offshore.
