LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Muslim civil rights group said Wednesday it has received an apology from the host of a Los Angeles radio show for making fun of a stampede that killed hundreds of Muslims during an annual pilgrimage.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations demanded an apology from KFI-AM 640 host Bill Handel after he made fun of the deaths of at least 363 Muslims during the Jan. 12 stampede.
According to CAIR, Handel imitated the people screaming and then joked that the pilgrims should use a helicopter to monitor pilgrimage traffic as is done in Los Angeles with freeway traffic.
Handel, who initially said he would say sorry only if CAIR denounced terrorism and acknowledge Israel's right to exist, apologized on his Wednesday program.
"The wound was very fresh for a lot of Muslims and the comments were out of line. And for that, I am sorry," he said.
CAIR also produced a copy of a letter of apology it said it received from an executive with the station's corporate owner.
"On this particular program, we crossed the line in reporting the Hajj incident in an insensitive manner," Greg Ashlock, regional vice president of Clear Channel Communications, was quoted

Civilisation better act today or our children will be muslim.
Other posters have been saying he appologized because he was threatened also but they called him a coward because that is what a person is when they give into threats: A COWARD. He caved instead of standing on principle, if he wasn't going to stand by his words he should have kept his mouth shut, period.
If the same approach was made by sCAIR that they did with Michael Savage when he was in DC, it was threatened litigation and threatened report to the FAA as hate speech and would have had the station lose the license to broadcast.
He may have apologized to keep his job.
brave words from someone not facing a muslim attack. and dont forget, he has a family. and there would be no help from any authorities. ie, he did the prudent thing.

Am I understanding you correctly: we should cave in to muslim demands because we are afraid? Are you related to Nevil Chambermaid?
Prudent? Hardly. The prudent thing is to remove islam from the face of the earth.
yes of course, and we know you are going to remove islam from the earth right? swear to me you will get rid of islam ok? i never said "we" in my post. i said he, as in one person standing alone against the death cult. "we" cant seem to get a handle on them. so "he" did the prudent thing. btw, if he had to defend himself and ended up killing a muslim in self defense, it is folks like the "we" who would find him guilty.
Handel didn't want to be beheaded in the parking lot.
(guess I should be apologizing now...)
Handel has recently instituted the policy of issuing apologies at the end of the show to everyone he offended that day. It's so that he can say to anyone who complains, "Hey, I already apologized to you." They have to dedicate the last 1-2 minutes of the show to the apologies. Funny stuff.
