CIA finding it difficult in putting more spies on the ground in ME

How difficult can it be to get people into Maine in the first place? Just drive up 95 for gosh sake.

Saw this on TV and the reporter was trying to make it seem that because of President Bush the CIA was losing its left-wing anti Bush incompetents. Which is GOOD, but to her it was bad. We need to get rid of those who leak classified information to the press and to the enemies of the United States.

The CIA needs to order their fat, overindulged, secret-leaking, liberal, UN suck-up, middle management bureaucrats to get of their collective a$$es and report for duty in the desert.

".....More than a third of the current estimated 1,200 case officers have been on the job less than five years, but this problem predates Director Goss. Since there was very little hiring during the 1990s, the managerial corps that should be taking over now was never brought on board, and the agency is now reaping the consequences."

Key paragragh in entire article! Clintoon destroyed the CIA and now his little Clintonites at the agency are getting mad because they can't have their way..so they are leaking like a sieve to the press and ruining the agency from within and blaming it on Bush. What else is new...(rolling eyes)

I think the CIA should hire the top 20 KGB spy recruiters. They knew how to recruit them. The CIA complaining about turnover is a joke, they had nothing in the ME before 9/11 and they have little to nothing today. Lincoln went through General after General before he could find one who'd fight. Any beaucracy, where officials are named 'barons' is ripe for turnovers. And why not recall successful operatives, who are retired, like Bob Barr, who tracked down the Beirut Embassy bombers, while the US government showed no interest in getting them.

How about fewer spies and more Forward Air Controllers?

Interesting article. I'm of the theory, either do the job and do it right or don't let the door hit you in the a$$.
This is nothing but a bitch session for the poor traitors.

"...the clandestine service has always seen itself as first among equals."

Oh Brother!!

"Because virtually all of these individuals worked in clandestine capacities, U.S. News will not reveal their names or publish information that could lead to exposure of their identities."

LOL!

"More important than the number of departing spies is the fact that so many have been its most seasoned veterans, inhabitants of "baron" posts, like those of the regional division chiefs and directors of the counterterrorism and counterproliferation centers. Within the past year, according to current and former case officers and supervisors, virtually the entire top level of the D.O. has turned over. One intelligence official estimates that at least 20 of the most coveted senior spots have been vacated in the 17 months since Goss arrived."

USN&WR is pretending that the above is bad news.

It's not. It's fantastically good news. Those departing regional agents were behind the CIA's failure to predict India's nuclear tests, Pakistan's nuclear tests, 9/11/2001, and a host of other major events (as well as botching the whole "slam dunk" that Iraq had nuclear weapons).

Which is to say: Porter Goss is successfully cleaning house at the CIA. The bad agents are being kicked out.

Good riddance to those career failures.
