O'BRIEN: It was quite a funeral, six hours. And the full range of emotions as Coretta Scott King was laid to rest. There were songs, prayers, praise and a healthy dose of politics.
Note Miles O'Brien's attempt to sway CNN's audience.
We're supposed to regard this injection of politics/rudeness into a funeral service as "healthy."

The entire text of the conversation gives the impression that Greenfield really, really wanted to condone Carter's remakes by saying that politics in Black Church's is an accepted tradition... but he just couldn't push the envelope that far. He ends up criticizing Drudge and, by implication Freepers, who find such conduct at a memorial service unseemly.
Carter was a turd in the punch bowl, as always, but the talking heads at CNN refuse to acknowledge it... business as usual.

"We should mention, by the way, that Martin Luther King was wiretapped during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations at the direction of Attorney General Robert Kennedy, who was a hero of that movement. It was good of Jeff Greenfield, one of Bobby Kennedy's speechwriters, to mention that.

You sort of get the sense that these days nuance is dead. It's coarse, isn't it? It is...FROM THE LEFT. The Republicans, no matter what you may say about them, know how to be gracious at funerals.
Speak for yourself, CNN.

The Dems'idea of a funeral brings new meaning to the term ho-down.

A remarkable element of this is that we as a society like to remember Dr. King as a man of conciliation "among all people, regardless of their race, color or creed". Yet, at his wife's funeral, Lowery and Carter can trample that memory with their bombastic, divisive rhetoric. What a shame.

Greenfield: We're now in early February. The idea that this is going to have some political implication, you have to really be overcommitted to endless analysis.CNNSpeak: We're going to spin like crazy and do our best to bury it.

I do, however, think that in a more subtle way, this actually rebounds to the credit of President Bush. I mean, he came to the funeral, changed his plans, made a gracious speech. And I think for people who are not politically committed -- I mean, if you don't like George Bush, this was fine. If you like George Bush, this was horrible. I think for a lot of people the idea is, do you really do this at a funeral? I hope a lot of everyday Democrats heard about this attack on Bush.

Former presidents Carter and Clinton, and civil rights legend Joseph Lowery used their time at the pulpit to take some jabs at the current administrationWhich only goes to show they were not there to pay their respects to Mrs. King - only to further their own political agendas.
They should be ashamed of themselves.

I love it when these libs at CNN try to explain away offensive liberal acts. They neglected to mention that the RATs have historically been anti-black from the Civil War on into FDR time, and it was only with Republican votes that the Voting Rights Act passed. Two RAT Supremes and some RAT senators (like Bird) were members in good standing in the KKK. Gag!

And on the Daily Kos, which is a site from the left, the argument was these conservatives had nothing to do with civil rights, they have no right to lecture us. Lefties are always shocked when I show them that Republicans voted for the civil rights laws of the 1960s in greater numbers than did the Democrats. They simply can get out of the mindset that they have lived with their entire lives that Republicans hate blacks etc. etc.
