Greenfield: 'Do you really do this at a funeral?' (Sickening political statements at King's funeral)

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Four U.S. presidents -- including President George W. Bush -- were among the luminaries at Coretta Scott King's funeral Tuesday. Among some speakers' accolades and tributes to the civil rights icon were criticisms of the current administration's actions -- the war in Iraq and domestic eavesdropping.

CNN senior analyst Jeff Greenfield talked to CNN anchor Miles O'Brien about politics raising its head at the funeral.

O'BRIEN: It was quite a funeral, six hours. And the full range of emotions as Coretta Scott King was laid to rest. There were songs, prayers, praise and a healthy dose of politics.

Former presidents Carter and Clinton, and civil rights legend Joseph Lowery used their time at the pulpit to take some jabs at the current administration with the man, as you see, seated a few feet away, President Bush.

Jeff Greenfield is here to talk about the implications of all of this.

Before we get going, we will share video of former President Carter making reference to wiretaps, which of course has historical parallels here to Martin Luther King Day.

(Video clip begins)

CARTER: It was difficult for them personally with the civil liberties of both husband and wife violated as they became the targets of secret government wiretapping, other surveillance.

(Video clip ends)

The gratuitous comments directed at the President by many o fthe speakers and Carter deliberatly not shaking his hand as he walked by.

That is truly outrageous. Just when I thought Carter couldn't sink any lower. What a small, mean-spirited man.

Thanks for the reply, btw. :)

and Carter deliberatly not shaking his hand... Is it just me or is Jimmy Carter still in that "malaise" he was suffering from in the 70s?

Just thought of another one:

"Nothing in this world is certain, except voting Democrat and taxes."

Here is something else to add to the legacy of Al Gore, Sr.

As you are most likely aware, Occidental Petroluem was run by Armand Hammer, the son of a Russian immigrant doctor. Mr Hammer was a communist and was a close friend to every leader of the USSR till his death. He could walk through the doors of the Kremlin whenever he wanted.

Island Creek Coal Co, where Al Gore, Sr was president after his Senate defeat, had several shaft mines (some more than 1500 ft below the water surface) in Buchanan County VA. Many of these mines were bored in the 1960s, but others were bored after Gore, Sr became president of the coal company. To my knowledge all of the coal produced at these mines went overseas to Japan and Romania. These two countries provided most of the tens, perhaps hundreds, of millions of dollars of capital to open these mines. The coal that was mined was the Pocahontas No 3 seam, highly regarded as the best metallugical coal on Earth. "Met coal" is used in the steel-making process.

Well, we know what happened in the 70s. An oil shortage occurred, which Occidental Petroleum greatly benefited in more ways than one. The "met coal" produced by Island Creek's Buchanan County mines and shipped to Japan was being used to build cars and other products. Many of the cars were exported, a form of dumping steel, to America to entice comsumers to purchase more fuel efficient autos.

I still haven't figured out what USSR-controlled Romania did with all the coal they received from Island Creek, but I think it's a good bet they weren't building cars. I strongly suspect many tools of war and destruction were built using all that coal.

The opinions of what was done with all that coal are mine, and I don't have 100% assurances of what I opined as being true. But, after thinking and pondering about the possible uses of all that coal, I think my opinions could have some validity.

I love it when these libs at CNN try to explain away offensive liberal acts. They neglected to mention that the RATs have historically been anti-black from the Civil War on into FDR time, and it was only with Republican votes that the Voting Rights Act passed. Two RAT Supremes and some RAT senators (like Bird) were members in good standing in the KKK. Gag!

"Vice President Al Gore's Jr.'s daughter Karenna Gore, was recently married
to Andrew Schiff. Andrew Schiff is a descendant [great-grandson] of JACOB SCHIFF." [who helped finance the communist revolution in Russia in 1917.]

more from link:

"Jacob Schiff gave $20 Million Dollars in Gold (worth Five Hundred
Million, $500,000,000.00, in 1999 dollars) to LEVI BRAUNSTEIN, also known as
Trotsky, and Vladimir Ilich Blanc Ulanyoff, also known as Lenin."

And on the Daily Kos, which is a site from the left, the argument was these conservatives had nothing to do with civil rights, they have no right to lecture us.

Lefties are always shocked when I show them that Republicans voted for the civil rights laws of the 1960s in greater numbers than did the Democrats. They simply can get out of the mindset that they have lived with their entire lives that Republicans hate blacks etc. etc.
