Carter: Still No Clue
New York Post ^ | February 8, 2006 | The Editors

Jimmy Carter may or may not have been the worst president of the 20th century — history will have the final word on that — but his disgraceful performance yesterday at Coretta Scott King's funeral marks him as the most shameless. Maybe of all time.

There is, after all, a time and place for everything — but not for Carter.

In a reprehensible (albeit typical) display of tone-deafness, the former president used the funeral of Dr. Martin Luther King's widow to score cheap points against President Bush. (He wasn't alone in that regard, more of which in a bit.)

Carter warmed up by conjuring the outlandish conspiracy theories that still linger from Hurricane Katrina: "We only have to recall the color of the faces of those in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi who are most devastated by Katrina to know that there are not yet equal opportunities for all Americans."

Then he segued on to the Bush administration.

In what could only be taken as a direct attack on Bush's electronic surveillance of suspected terrorists — a program Carter has repeatedly denounced as "illegal" — the ex-prez said of Mrs. King and her slain husband, Martin Luther King, "they became the targets of secret government wiretapping and other surveillance."

Ditto. He ran in 1976 as a southern moderate. I soon learned better. The only good thing he did during his administration was to get out of his limo on inauguration day and walk the rest of the way. Gutsy. It was all downhill from there.

Jimmy Carter signed Executive Order 12139 on May 23, 1979, declaring that “the Attorney General is authorized to approve electronic surveillance to acquire foreign intelligence information without a court order.”

When Michael Medved guest-hosted for Rush a number of years ago, he said he knew the Clinton's when they were in Law School.

Jimmah Carters idea of Christianity and, also all the liberals were displayed yesterday at the King funeral. True Christians in America do not display such characteristics of
behavior. Be thankful Jimmah doesn't' teach you or any of your family in Sunday School.

You wonder though at what point they'll start to slap a muzzle on him.

Certainly not yet, since most of his views are pretty much "mainstream" by current dem standards.

Not content to be the worst president EVER, Jimmy Carter is now campaigning actively to become the worst former president EVER -- and by and large succeeding, I might add.

Carter Used Same Spy Powers As Bush

Almost immediately after the enactment of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978, President Jimmy "the Saint" Carter issued Executive Order #12139:

1-101. Pursuant to Section 102(a)(1) of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 (50 U.S.C. 1802(a)), the Attorney General is authorized to approve electronic surveillance to acquire foreign intelligence information without a court order, but only if the Attorney General makes the certifications required by that Section.

Pursuant to Section 102(b) of the Foreign Intelligence Act of 1978 (50 U.S.C. 1802(b)), the Attorney General is authorized to approve applications to the court having jurisdiction under Section 103 of that Act to obtain orders for electronic surveillance for the purpose of obtaining foreign intelligence information.

1-103. Pursuant to Section 104(a)(7) of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 (50 U.S.C. 1804(a)(7)), the following officials, each of whom is employed in the area of national security or defense, is designated to make the certifications required by Section 104(a)(7) of the Act in support of applications to conduct electronic surveillance:

(b) Secretary of Defense.
(c) Director of Central Intelligence.
(d) Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
(e) Deputy Secretary of State.
(f) Deputy Secretary of Defense.
(g) Deputy Director of Central Intelligence.

None of the above officials, nor anyone officially acting in that capacity, may exercise the authority to make the above certifications, unless that official has been appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate.

1-104. [Deleted]

1-105. [Deleted]

[Secs. 1-104 and 1-105 amended Executive Order 12036 of Jan. 24, 1978, which was revoked by Executive Order 12333 of Dec. 4, 1981.]

During his 1976 Presidential campaign, Carter took the unprecedented step of giving an interview to Playboy magazine in which he admitted to having "lusted in his heart" for women other than his wife.

Jimmy Carter turned me from a Democrat to a Republican.

Me too!

In '76, I asked myself, "is this the best the dems have to offer?" I voted for Ford and haven't looked back since.

Over the years I have given to Habitat for Humanity. Given Mr. Carter's prominence with that organization my donations will now go instead to the Salvation Army.

I agree Jimmy has lost any thought of being a good person, much less poor president. He will go down in history as the back stabber of the elite presidents. His actions yesterday show how pathetic he is to the nutty left wing.

"The Rats wellstoned Coretta Scott King."

I half expected one of those jackals to try to climb in the casket. BTW, CSK was a very MINOR player in the civil rights movement. All of this fawning over her is only to get the black vote.

You know the complete Irony of this is, if the shoe were on the other foot, and President Bush was given a podium to embarrass President Carter about his failings during his Presidential years, President George W. Bush would be graceful and not seize an opportunity to make a political statement of untruths over a dead woman's body.
