Jimmy Carter may or may not have been the worst president of the 20th century history will have the final word on that but his disgraceful performance yesterday at Coretta Scott King's funeral marks him as the most shameless. Maybe of all time.
There is, after all, a time and place for everything but not for Carter.
In a reprehensible (albeit typical) display of tone-deafness, the former president used the funeral of Dr. Martin Luther King's widow to score cheap points against President Bush. (He wasn't alone in that regard, more of which in a bit.)
Carter warmed up by conjuring the outlandish conspiracy theories that still linger from Hurricane Katrina: "We only have to recall the color of the faces of those in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi who are most devastated by Katrina to know that there are not yet equal opportunities for all Americans."
Then he segued on to the Bush administration.
In what could only be taken as a direct attack on Bush's electronic surveillance of suspected terrorists a program Carter has repeatedly denounced as "illegal" the ex-prez said of Mrs. King and her slain husband, Martin Luther King, "they became the targets of secret government wiretapping and other surveillance."

True. We expect our own to behave as adults with a modicum of class. The expectations of democrats are very low, so this type of stuff is no great surprise.
. . . like Kerry and his Botox! LOL!
A thought.
Jimma sure aint no spring chicken and is getting very long in the tooth.
Even this bastard cant live forever.
Wonder what his funeral will be like?
You're right! Same malady. The inability to accept a loss makes them bitter and crazy. Crazy being the operative word, of course.
I keep hearing what President Bush said when he thought John Kerry was winning: "It is what it is." I have no doubt that he would have returned to Crawford and lived the rest of his life in peace, a happy man.
On the other hand, when John Kerry started loosing, he said "I can't believe I'm loosing to this idiot." And he hasn't shut up yet. The bitterness keeps piling on.
Good observation. Funny, actually! LOL.
The Carter years saw me through my early teens. I was not very political as is typical of kids that age, but even I realized something was seriously wrong with our leadership while I watched the gas lines, the Iranian embassy debacle and our worse than useless attempt to do something about it.
I'll lower my flag to half staff, but I'll make it clear I only do it out of respect for the office of the Presidency. I will not watch one second of the funeral coverage.
DOMESTIC wire-tapping -- with NO WARRANT, no less.
I saw Michael Brown, son of the sainted Ron Brown, on H&C last night absolutely denying that one word of that was the truth. He denied it right to the end of the show.
Exactly! Democrats and Liberals have a psychological inability to laugh at themselves.
I saw that too! Why would you do something like that when it is so easily proved?
BUMP! It hard to be a bigger failure in four years then LBJ was in 6 but Jimmy managed to do it. Worst president ever in my book, no one else can touch Jimmy when it comes to being classless and clueless.
4. The media will gush endlessly about what a wonderful human being and president Jimmy Carter was, and proclaim the day of his death to be one of the darkest in our history. There will be nothing seen of the 10,000 word NYT "obituary" that was nothing more than a long-winded screed of pure sneering hatred, none of the thinly veiled contempt shown by broadcast "journalists", none of the grimacing, hypocritical claims of "we really liked him and are saddened by his death" that were fully on display when President Reagan died.
It's beyond me, polly; they just state lies as facts and call facts lies.
Something is REALLY wrong with them, but it's all they've got.
And it is getting worse. I didn't think it could, but it is. Frankly, it is very weird and gives me the creeps.
When he kept saying "no they didn't" "no they didn't" my husband and I just looked at each other stunned. He sounded like a two year old.
Give C-SPAN time. They'll get around to doing exactly that -- not take calls from Republicans any more.
I'm with you; I'm beginning to be creeped out, too. It's like up is down and black is white; the proverbial parallel universe.
Democrats are running their mouths.
I was thinking to myself yesterday: The only person who did not deliver a message with the requisite class and humility of the other speakers at President Reagan's funeral was Ronald P. Reagan. A leftwing wingnut.
A very clear and consistent pattern has developed amongst these small, petty, angry, irrational people. Now its words. Eventually their anger and desperation will lead them to further irrational actions. They have a lot of mortar missing between their bricks.
