Pupil refused to wear uniform of 'non-believers' By Joshua Rozenberg, Legal Editor (Filed: 08/02/2006)
A Muslim schoolgirl refused to wear school uniform because she was not prepared to dress in the same clothes as "non-believers", Britain's highest civil court was told yesterday.
Five law lords were hearing an appeal by Denbigh High School, Luton, against an earlier ruling that Shabina Begum, 17, had been denied the right to manifest her religion under Article 9 of the Human Rights Convention.
She was sent home in September 2002 when she insisted on wearing a jilbab, a full-length Islamic gown that hides the shape of a woman's arms and legs. At that time, nearly 80 per cent of the school's pupils were Muslim.

Note: one Cherrie Blair defended this schoolgirl.
This should test if we have learned anything from recent months.

If she doesn't want to wear the uniform, she should take a hike and go back to Pakistan

Ironically I am watching one of those Night of the Living Dead movies on the TV (can't sleep tonight).
Seeing the maniacal zombies chasing after humans with fire in the background is all too reminiscent of current Islamic events.

Frankly I'd hand over a voucher or tax credit for the same amount they spend per student to any parents of a student no matter what education they were spending it on. Its called freedom and it works very well everywhere it is tried.

One of those great films that people will be watchin' long after Brokeback Mountain and it's ilk are forgotten. On the other hand maybe Brokeback would send you to sleep...
kind regards indeed,

No problem with that - but how does it play out with this schoolgirl?

The fixed link works great.
As for the Muslim princess, I'd tell her:
"The only reason you are in this country and going to a decent school is
because your family left a country full of believers...
to come to a country built, defended and improved by nothing but a
whole country of non-believers.
So sit yourself down, stop b-tching about unbelievers and do your best
with your lessons."
End of discussion.
OK, I'd never be able to pull that off.
Besides, in the real world, I'd be fired, then set aflame by her
family and their radical buddies at the local mosque.
But the Islamics leave their hell-holes...just so they can re-create it
in the countries that show them a decent measure of kindness.

Was this the only school she could attend? Is she planning on returning to her home of origin or was she born in Britain? Why is she so rabid? And what does the average Brit think about Madame Blair defending her?

Er, in turn as best I know...
"Was this the only school she could attend? "
as far as I know no. She chose to go there presumably because it was mostly Muslim.
I"s she planning on returning to her home of origin or was she born in Britain? "
not that I know of.
"Why is she so rabid? "
She was put up to this by some adult Muslim local hardliners. Remember she was only 14 then and easy prey.
"And what does the average Brit think about Madame Blair defending her?"
There were some eyebrows raised at the time. But remember a lot of water (and bombs and cartoons) have flowered under the bridge since then, that is why I think this will be a test of current opinion.
I read that there had been a disagreement between Tony and Cherie on this one. Tony felt she should not have taken the case up.
kind regards

If she doesn't want to wear the uniform, she should take a hike and go back to PakistanI agree. Soon they will be using the same tactics in this country in order to force their religious beliefs on us. You can bet our liberal courts and our wimpy government officials will cowtow to them.
