Polish Jews mark Polish tragedy
Polish Jews held a service to mark a roof collapse that killed nearly 70 Poles.
Last weeks service at Warsaws Nozyk Synagogue commemorated the Jan. 28 collapse in Katowice that killed 67 people. Some 200 people attended the service, as did Israels ambassador to Poland, David Peleg.
The Union of Jewish Religious Communities of Poland and the Polish Union of Jewish Students sponsored the event.

That's about every Jew left in Poland, isn't it?
Sounds a littlebit cynical but is a good question.
January 27, 2007
It will become an Iranian holiday
No, there is about 40 times more of them.
...as did Israels ambassador to Poland...

Too bad we didn't see a Bush administration symbol listed here, the Polish are true allies.
Beat me to it.
Only 8.000 jews in Poland? That is really a small number. It is sick that the nazis were that successfull in destroying the jewish culture in Poland. In the meantime Germany has around 180.000 jewish citizens again. It grew from 30.000 citizens in the 80ties to that number through jewish immigration into Germany from Russia and other former east block countries. The German gouvernment is trying to slow down the jewish immigration now because the Israeli gouvernment got mad because more jews immigrated to Germany than to Israel in the recent years...
Economic reasons and political stability (in difference to Israel) are usually the motives of those jews that immigrate to Germany nowadays.
What Polish Jews the Nazis didn't get rid of, the traitor Polish Communists did.
What is happening between Israel and Poland is extremely encouraging. It is also driving the E.U. crazy, as is Poland's attitude towards gays and abotion.
I would like to know how the number 8.000 was estimated. I think that there are preety more people of Jewish origin. The context of the question is combined with Holocoust and an after-war migration. So I would be carefull about giving a precise number in that context.
There were times when the foreigners in Poland got assimilated, married to Poles with children. Many Jews of considered as Jews by the Nazis spoke Polish and felt Polish, fought for Poland. So both cases 1. How many there are left? and 2. How many Poles and hom many Jews died? is more than extremly complex.
PS. Are the black people in USA still considered as Nigerians, Kenyans etc or are they Americans? So was and is with Poland. If you live here, speak Polish, feel Polish, got yourself a Polish girl, you have children, you know our history etc. many of my compatriots will consider you as Polish. Little offtop, but I felt that clarification is important.
8,000 is a widely accepted number. I believe it comes from the Coordinating Committee of Jewish Organizations in the Polish Republic, and presumably includes those who identify themselves as Jewish, not anyone who has a distant Jewish relative. That's down from about 100,000 in the post WWII period, presumably using the same standard. There were two large waves of emigration to Israel, one in the late 50s, another after the 67 war.
"The German gouvernment is trying to slow down the jewish immigration now because the Israeli gouvernment got mad because more jews immigrated to Germany than to Israel in the recent years..."
There's something profoundly perverse in that statement. :)
Yep! But it is the plain truth.
