LITHONIA, Ga. - Shivering in near-freezing temperatures, thousands of people waited hours in line Tuesday for one last chance to say goodbye to Coretta Scott King before her funeral.
"There's one word to describe going to go see Coretta historic. It's good to finally see her at peace," said Robert Jackson, a 34-year-old financial consultant from Atlanta whose 10-year-old daughter, Ebony, persuaded him to take her to the visitation.
The lines had already started forming by 3 a.m. By the time the doors opened at 6:30 a.m., people toward the end were warned that if they stayed in line they likely wouldn't get into the funeral because of long lines that were already forming there.
An estimated 10,000 people, including four U.S. presidents, were expected to attend the midday funeral at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, where King's daughter Bernice is a minister.
You know how I like to think about that?
People have an unlimited capacity to be stupid.
Some people smoke cigarettes, some people are fat and don't exercise. Some people fly airplanes into the ground, and some people vote for Democrats.
What can I tell ya, except that I am still confident that the stupid people are still a minority.
yep..I saw that..she is a gushing liberal. I turned it off.
But.... Carter is going to travel all over the country to raise money for Jack's campaign. This means we'll be greeted with daily anti-Bush speeches from the wiezel and I pray Jack loses in Nevada.
I thought differently when my mother died too, fortunately she had no political pull, so she was mourned only by those that loved her, not by those that wanted to be near someone famous.
Bernice King up next to speak
You need to change that to overlords to make sense...
you didn't say anything in there to convince me he was a communist. Nothing will ever convince me of that, unless he said he was through his own words.
His actions sure as hell weren't communistic. Far from it.
BTW my dad grew up in the South and he has quite a different take on the way things were.
I guess I was wrong
CeeCee Winans is singing now
She sang at the DC Christmas tree lighting ... she has a very nice voice
That's not the most becomming picture of Laura. She must have been ticked off when it was snapped.
6 hours later and this funeral is still going on!
Looks like we didn't miss much.
sw
Yep.
451 bump
Now Bernice King is up speaking
I'd feel better if it were a bigger margin than the last election...
I tuned in to hear BeBe Winan sing. I see Ma and Pop Winan are there, CeCe is there. Looks like a PTL Marathon, they got gold couches and chairs and the whole bit.
