4 U.S. Presidents Expected at King Funeral (Live Thread)

LITHONIA, Ga. - Shivering in near-freezing temperatures, thousands of people waited hours in line Tuesday for one last chance to say goodbye to Coretta Scott King before her funeral.

"There's one word to describe going to go see Coretta — historic. It's good to finally see her at peace," said Robert Jackson, a 34-year-old financial consultant from Atlanta whose 10-year-old daughter, Ebony, persuaded him to take her to the visitation.

The lines had already started forming by 3 a.m. By the time the doors opened at 6:30 a.m., people toward the end were warned that if they stayed in line they likely wouldn't get into the funeral because of long lines that were already forming there.

An estimated 10,000 people, including four U.S. presidents, were expected to attend the midday funeral at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, where King's daughter Bernice is a minister.

"Gay rights are what this woman was championing....so if you are so adorned with a woman that pandered...then you must be a panderer..if there is such a word...regardless..this whole situation is ridiculous..and you fell right into the agenda....."

My angry friend: Someone asked why Presidents, present and former, attended this funeral. I provided an answer to that question.

Somehow, you got off on the topic of gay rights...how I do not know. My point was that those who attended this funeral found some reason to do so, including President Bush. Mrs. King has been a guest in the White House and attended his first inauguration. For whatever reason, President Bush felt that he should attend her funeral and speak at it.

I said nothing about whether I liked Mrs. King, whether I knew her positions on any subject, or anything else. I said that four Presidents thought it worthwhile to attend her funeral due to her civil rights work.

You're the one stuck on whatever her opinion is on "gay rights," whatever those might be. Now you're calling me a panderer.

Go peddle your nonsense somewhere else. I'm not an appropriate target for it. Do as your screenname suggests and get smart.

Here are your words:

"so if you are so adorned with a woman that pandered...then you must be a panderer..if there is such a word..."

Adorned? What on earth does that mean in this sentence. Perhaps you mean "enamored." If so, I am not particularly enamored of Mrs. King. Frankly, I know very little about her, other than her being the wife of the late Rev. King.

As for her pandering, again, I know nothing of her opinion regarding "gay rights." Therefore, I am not a panderer, and yes, there is such a word.

Go play somewhere else, friend. You're way over your head screwing around with me.

Did "they" politicize MLK's funeral when he was assassinated? I don't remember it that way? Why should his wife's funeral be politicized instead of being a tribute to the woman and only the woman.

Hillary tried to slow down today because of being called "Angry, and couldn't be elected". Also, she BOBBS her head to impress the crowd she is listening and absorbing, trying to show them how intelligent she is. Her mouth betrayes her. She is absolutely a dangerous phoney.

A lot of words but nothing of substance....By your own words....

I said nothing about whether I liked Mrs. King, whether I knew her positions on any subject, or anything else

Then don't post on a subject you know nothing about...by your own admission....if you are neutral in this situation...then you shouldn't have voiced an opinion...

I don't remember MLK's funeral; I was pretty young and although those were terrible times, I think somehow that people had a better sense of decorum.

CNN is replaying all the Bush bashes! This is horrible!

I've been watching a lot of the CNN coverage today (I know, I know..).   It's been utterly despicable.  Kyra Phillips has been especially irritating with her gushing attempts to tie cretins like Harry Belafonte, Jesse Jackson, and Ted Kennedy into Mrs. King's legacy and turn a solemn occasion into a commercial for the current-day race warlords of the Democratic Party.

Don't have time to read through the thread, but I see Paul McCartney's name mentioned. Did he get up and sing the hit that he had a long time ago with the group he was with at the time, what's their name, Gerry and the Pacemakers, or was it Brian Poole and the Tremeloes?

Get back Coretta,
Get back to where you once belonged!

I heard on our local station that the Mexican Government shut the clinic down last week (after she passed away). I didn't hear why, but I know that clinic has been there for a long time and criticized in the past for some very interesting treatments; a few people here in our town have been there for treatment.

Look. Go learn to write coherently in English, then read my posts in this thread. I only addressed why Presidents attended this funeral.

I know the answer to that question. I commented on nothing else. Find someone else to bother and to call names. I pander to nobody, and I don't tolerate being called names.

You're playing out of your league.
