4 U.S. Presidents Expected at King Funeral (Live Thread)

LITHONIA, Ga. - Shivering in near-freezing temperatures, thousands of people waited hours in line Tuesday for one last chance to say goodbye to Coretta Scott King before her funeral.

"There's one word to describe going to go see Coretta — historic. It's good to finally see her at peace," said Robert Jackson, a 34-year-old financial consultant from Atlanta whose 10-year-old daughter, Ebony, persuaded him to take her to the visitation.

The lines had already started forming by 3 a.m. By the time the doors opened at 6:30 a.m., people toward the end were warned that if they stayed in line they likely wouldn't get into the funeral because of long lines that were already forming there.

An estimated 10,000 people, including four U.S. presidents, were expected to attend the midday funeral at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, where King's daughter Bernice is a minister.

"From what everyone has said, he wouldn't acknowledge him or shake his hand? Just walked by with his usual self-important I-am-the-Nobel-Peace-Prize-winner arrogance!"

Carter is a waste of space in a crowded world! What a toad!

This is so sad. Half the people have left the church, and they still can't end the service.

Mrs. King has served as a symbol of her husband's work, and has been active in the civil rights arena all along.

She was for gay rights...are you for gay rights?

Well, I must be in your grandfathers age range, because I'm one of the people who voted to dump the Carter after he put out economy into the dumper and then told us that is just the way it is and will be from now on.

You know his son, Jack, is running against Ensign in Nevada and Carter has vowed to travel all over the US to raise money to get him elected. This means Carter will be able to trash our President on a daily basis, all in the name of fund-raising.

I hope the good people of Nevada overwhelmingly return Ensign to office, I think he's a good man.

Columbus is not a national holiday; it is only a Federal holiday.

May Mrs. King rest in peace and the rest of the evil rat pieholes can go straight to hell. THEY KNOW NO LIMITS!

Maybe she is doing one last public service by allowing these classless rats to once again expose themselves for what they really are?

I want to attend Carter's funeral in person! I hear they plan to pass out Snickers bars and RC cola.

I'll be searching for a stuffed killer rabbit and a jar of may-o-laise.

No matter what "style" of singing it was suppose to be.

Thanks, Howlin, I got home in time to hear the caterwauling of Stevie Wonder, and was reviewing some of the posts when I read Unspun's. I was getting ready to respond when I saw your response. You said it so much better than I could have. I caught a few words of the song, and think he was attempting to sing, "His Eye is on the Sparrow, but he mutilated it! I don't Ethel Waters would have appreciated his rendition of the song she made popular.

It seems pretty clear she did more than Nancy Reagan did and I am sure that you would expect all the present, past and future presidents to attend her funeral, right?

I didn't know that MLK was ever elected President. Even more, I did not know it was a custom for Presidents to attend anything except STATE funerals, and she was no head of state, nor leader of any country.

Maybe I am just old-fashioned enough to think that there are some people more worthy of recognition, than others. I always hought we should give honor to people who have actually accomplished something, other than marry well!

You can lump me with all the bigots, I guess, but it isn't about her color to me, it is about HONOR. With the politicians, it IS about color. and it's obvious to most of us casual observers.

I don't see Mr. Prez attending any soldiers funerals. Yet, he ordered them to war. They are defending the most important thing in the world, the people of the USofA. They are doing their DUTY.

Thanks, but no thanks...

"I like cheese on my pizza...does that mean you are for gay rights?"

I'm not sure what gay rights are, actually. I am for precisely identical rights for every citizen of this country. No more, no less.

Why do you ask me about gay rights? I'm not gay.

Oh puhleese...if this wasn't all over the MSM...no one would give a crap...the MSM is STILL deciding what happens in this country...

No, they are not.

Were the MSM running things, you would not see a Republican President, Congress and Supreme Court. The MSM does not even control public opinion as they once did. They will put their spin on today's events, but so will the Internet.

I maintain that what happened today is very good news for our side. The Dems have gone bonkers, and it can only help our cause. You might also notice that there is much less attention paid to the prevailing black opinion these days. People have gotten tired of the racist charges, which have lost their sting. The Bush'es acted with class, the others did not. It is that simple.

Is there a difference between a national and a Federal holiday? (Honest question. I wasn't aware that there was a distinction.) Both Columbus and MLK days close government offices, banks, and some schools. Neither is a day off work for most private enterprise employees.

Given a choice, I'd be willing to exchange Labor Day for Ronald Reagan's birthday, but Satan will be ice skating in Hades before that happens.
