4 U.S. Presidents Expected at King Funeral (Live Thread)

LITHONIA, Ga. - Shivering in near-freezing temperatures, thousands of people waited hours in line Tuesday for one last chance to say goodbye to Coretta Scott King before her funeral.

"There's one word to describe going to go see Coretta — historic. It's good to finally see her at peace," said Robert Jackson, a 34-year-old financial consultant from Atlanta whose 10-year-old daughter, Ebony, persuaded him to take her to the visitation.

The lines had already started forming by 3 a.m. By the time the doors opened at 6:30 a.m., people toward the end were warned that if they stayed in line they likely wouldn't get into the funeral because of long lines that were already forming there.

An estimated 10,000 people, including four U.S. presidents, were expected to attend the midday funeral at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, where King's daughter Bernice is a minister.

I'm sure Kerry announced his plans to run for President in '08 during Coretta Scott King's funeral.

He was definitely in hostile territory. I'm sure that no matter what he did, he surely did it with class, and reverence, and respect.

CNN bubblehead hostess right now is giggling along with some "professor" she's interviewing as he wishes that Ted Kennedy was President instead of the current one.....

Oh, my. I can't even imagine that.

He certainly did. He spoke first and did very well, and was very well received.

I thought President Bush's tribute was almost poetic. Real Class always tells.

Just please tell me that everyone here noticed Hillary's head bobbing the ENTIRE TIME during x42's speech!

She did not stop bobbing her head for even so much as a moment!

And then went right into that monotone--I swear, can't she hire a freakin speech coach?

He's in the audience but he has not spoken, whether appropriately or inappropriately.

He showed a lot of class for going in there and taking that kind of abuse. It shows a lot about Bush's character. The left should be ashamed.

She didn't attribute it to anyone. I believe she just said "Who will now say send me?" Of course I couldn't pay close attention to that pathetic speech so I may be wrong about what she said.

"May God bless President Bush and his wife. He has endured such hardness in trying to protect an ungrateful group of people."

I agree. Why the President or any Republican tries to show class around these people is something I could not do. I guess that is why I am not or never will be in politics. Calling a spade, a spade is lost virtue in politics.

Former President George H.W. Bush should adopt Carter.

Then it could be My Three Sons.

The president was very compassionate; no joking.

President bush gave a beautiful speech in honor of Mrs. King. You could tell it was heartfelt.
