Oh, this little nothing?

Nothing to Wear

She organized the closet,
And threw out all my stuff.
She said she needed lots more room,
And that I had enough.

I had to compromise a bit,
With all the nothing there.
My costume thus became a hit,
For I was wearing air!

I've heard them say "dress for success,"
I know what that's about.
It was my favorite way to dress,
Until I wore it out!

Hi NnB.

Glad you don't mind me re-cycling some of your poems from the Place.

We do have a great selection, don't we?

I afford rattlers the respect that they deserve. When I go hiking around here, I wear jeans and thick leather hiking shoes or boots. I would only "mess" with one if I had a .357 or a snake hook. Luckily, the only rattlers that I have encountered were safely behind glass in a zoo, or beheaded in the bed of someone's truck (those suckers will wriggle for quite a while after the head is severed).

And just to tide you over until I can get my Poetry books to you, here's another lighthearted look ...

Embarrassed

I locked my keys inside my car,
No need to wonder where they are.
I plainly see them sitting there,
The rolled-up glass is clear as air.

I pat my pockets in the hope,
I’m really not this big a dope.
But they are empty, as I knew,
And this confirms something that’s true.

If there were some way I could lock it,
I’d end up barred from my own pocket.
I know that given half a chance,
I’d lock myself outside my pants.

I’d zip them up, secure the clasp,
And only then I’d surely gasp,
To realize, of all the gentry,
My pants alone deny my entry.

I’m sure the cop would soon come ‘round,
As word would spread across the town,
“My wife’s phone number? You can call it,
It’s written there inside my wallet.”

It seemed salvation was at hand,
I stood at the door of my laundry man.
It was at this point I got extra nervous,
I saw the sign, “no shirt, no shoes, no service.”

Thank God for God
Read Luke 18:9-14
God, be merciful to me, a sinner!
- Luke 18:13 (NRSV)

WHEN I was a volunteer probation officer, I met a deeply troubled woman. She was an alcoholic, a heroin addict, a heavy smoker, and a battered wife. She used to tell me that she had stopped using the heroin and was working on the other problems one at a time. "I can't do it all at once!" she exclaimed, her eyes begging for forgiveness, acceptance, and love.. I.never doubted her rightness with God.
.
But in society, there seem to be more self-righteous Pharisees than there are humble tax collectors. We blame women for being raped or beaten. We blame the poor for being unkempt and underfed. We blame the unemployed for not having a decent job. We blame people for low self-esteem and limited opportunities. Yet we are all sinners in need of God's merciful love.

God does not blame any of us for being imperfect. Rather, God calls us to fullness of life John 10: 10). This' does not mean we can abandon moral standards and do anything we please. It does mean that we strive to help one another grow.

We are not asked to judge one another. We are asked to embrace our own call to healing and wholeness and to promote that process in others.
PRAYER: Merciful God, we thank You for Your forgiving and
healing love. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

God loves each of us in spite of ourselves.
Coleen Lynch (Alberta, Canada)

Dirty Dishes

Read:
Matthew 24:32-44

Abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. —1 John 2:28

Bible In One Year: Leviticus 4-5; Matthew 24:29-51

cover When I was a boy, my father often traveled to other cities to speak at churches and Bible conferences. Sometimes my mother would accompany him, leaving my brother and me alone for a few days. We enjoyed being independent, but we detested doing the dishes.

I remember the time we tried to put off that dreaded chore as long as possible by stacking all the dirty plates, glasses, and silverware in the oven after each meal. At the end of the week, there was hardly any room left. Then, on the evening before Mom and Dad were to return, we rolled up our sleeves and cleaned up the whole mess. It took hours! How ashamed we would have been if our parents had come back earlier than we expected.

Because we don't know exactly when Christ will return (Matthew 24:36,42,44), we must not get lazy in our Christian walk. The expectancy of His any-moment appearance should help us to be "faithful and wise" servants (v.45) and to live in a way that "we may have confidence and not be ashamed" when He comes (1 John 2:28).

Yes, Christ will come again, just as He promised. Perhaps today! Do you have any "dirty dishes"? Now is the time to get ready. —Richard De Haan

Faithful and true would He find us here
If He should come today?
Watching in gladness and not in fear,
If He should come today. —Morris

Live as if Christ is coming back today.
