Troops Magnet On School Bus Causes Fight With Teacher, Driver
NBC 4 Columbus ^ | February 6, 2006

DELAWARE, Ohio -- Two adults and one magnet led to a political confrontation at a Delaware City school, according to The Delaware Gazette.

Amy Runyan said she proudly displayed a "support our troops" magnet on her school bus, but last December, a teacher took it off and destroyed it.

The teacher was disciplined, but bus drivers were also reminded that Ohio law only allows state safety stickers on buses.

Now, Runyan has filed a complaint with police.

"All I want is my ribbon bought and an apology," Runyan said.

The teacher involved in the situation declined to comment.

The Delaware City Prosecutor said the matter is under investigation, but no charges have been filed.

SO the lesson for today kids is that if you don't like something feel free to just grab it and break it!

I can see why liberals have such affinity to the religion of peace, they seem to behave just the same.

Of course. Both groups subscribe to the "my way or the highway" way of thinking and acting. Both are intolerant and totalitarian in nature.

Good to see the teacher was discipline.

The moral of the story is that the bus driver doesn't own the bus and, therefore, cannot use it to espouse political belief. I know it is hard to swallow, but if we budge on this one we'll be seeing "Pro-Choice" stickers on school buses across the country.

And yes, the teacher who tore the magnet is an absolute dimwit who shouldn't be allowed around children.

a teacher took it off and destroyed it.

NO doubt this teacher has an elitist attitude.

I am college educated. I am far superior to you a simple bus driver. I can not allow you to corrupt these young minds with your imperialist thoughts.

How is that the moral of the story? If the Principal had told the bus driver to take it off because of State law I would agree. But the teacher decided to take it on himself/herself to enforce State law by stealing the ribbon...more like the teacher was making a political statement by theft. At least the bus driver didn't have to steal to make his/her statement. That's the moral of the story--democrats are an angry, stealing bunch.

And Support The Troops is considered a political statement?

What crazy times we live in.

Delaware County is one strange place. Tons of weird crime, and a bunch of old local yokels experiencing culture shock as the yuppies pour in.

It is 100% Republican, but that only serves the purpose of showing that there are plenty of Republican a**holes out there.

Delaware is getting some influence from all of the overflow from Columbus.

I don't know if it's 100% Republican, but it's reliably so if you know what I mean.

Kinda like Licking County to an extent, although Delaware is already bigger.

If it said support the troopers would the State Police make her take it off?

A yellow ribbon on a school bus is as annoying as a grain of sand on a seashore

Your analogy isn't a good one. Abortion is political. Supporting our military is not. Does the teacher actually believe and hope that our troops are slaughtered? Isn't that the opposite of supporting our troops?

Licking County seems to be on a more level keel. My MIL lives in Pataskala, and it seems to be reasonable there.

On the other hand, my ex and my son are in Delaware, and that place is just screwy.
