I haven't mentioned that on this thread, but every time one of those shots came up, various people at the party I was at and I said the exact same thing.

I was at a Steeler party and every one of us thought it was damn inappropriate for anyone to be shown holding the trophy before the game had ended, and that there at least should have been balance.

There was a Disney commercial that showed all Steelers practicing "I'm going to Disney World." Unless there was a Seattle version I didn't see, that was wrong too.

They are breathlessly awaiting your valued opinion

Ah, yes, after all who am I to question them? I mean their success, these last few years, is certainly testimony to the wisdom of their decisions.

Are you a 49ers fan?

If so, glass houses come to mind.

That's what makes this seem so preordained by the league. The Bus and Cowher finally "winning" one is a nice fairy tale ending.

I don't want to be a sour grapes Seahawks fan, but sports commentaries around the Nation are saying the same thing about the lousy officiating that pretty obviously affected the outcome of the game, and only began after Seattle was dominating the quarter. The officiating should be looked at as well as the obvious Steeler favoritism of the TV coverage, which showed countless clips of Steelers holding the trophy. Even the Steeler fans noticed this lopsided favoritism. Someone high up in the NFL and the broadcast station needs to provide an answer and some apologies to Seahawks fans and football fans everywhere who expected to tune in and see a hard hitting fair and honest championship game. They seem to be spending more time monitoring the Half time shows and commercials for embarrassing content than making sure they are giving equal respect to both teams that have one their own divisions.

That being said, none of the players in the locker room were placing the blame on the officials. They blamed them selves for not getting the job done. That shows class. The dropped passes, the missed field goals, the beautiful passes caught just out of bounds, If you are not at the top of your game bad calls are going to haunt you big time. But when neither team was playing at their best but one of them is getting help from the officials you can’t help to be angry if you are a fan.

I forgot about the Disneyland shots until you just mentioned that - it was mentioned at our party as well.

I agree w what you say about the shots w the trophy - both on balance and holding it before the end of the game - - I don't recall that ever being done before.

"Just wondering what happened at the end of the game when Bill Cowher was just standing there looking around for Holmgrin to show up and shake hands? Looked like Seattle left the field?"

Holmgren left the field so he could whine and fit in with the rest of the whiny lefties up there in the Pacifistic Northwest.

He'd much rather blame the zebras then talk about missed field goals, blown defensive assignments, dropped passes, and mismanaging the time clock. The Seahawks linemen were tackling Steelers all day, Hasselbeck nearly missed Taylor on the tackle and ended up nearly cutting the legs out from under Carter - that's why he got called. Don't want pass interference on offense? Don't lock your elbow when you push off to create space.

Holmgren is basically saying "we lost 'cause the refs won't let us cheat."

Winners make plays and losers make excuses.

How exciting. Having a Super Bowl in a lovely environment like Detroit, featuring a geriatric, drug-influenced half-time show. What's the NFL up to? Trying to kill the golden goose? Detroit is the only place I've ever had the hubcaps stolen off my rental car while I was inside, waiting for a signal light to turn green..

I was wrong. I meant, at any time prior to his knee hitting the ground, the ball just has to cross the plane of that imaginary line.

Colin Cowpile (radio host on ESPN Radio) is whining and crying like a little beeyotch. He says that his program is not going to recognize the Steelers as the Super Bowl Champs, because of the officiating. Well, isn't that special?

It seems to me that both sides had a questionable touchdown, but the rules bore out the decisions. Both quarterbacks had huge interceptions (which I guess were the referees' fault, too).

If Colin Cowpile wants to be a reputable host, perhaps he should take a cue from another radio host, a true veteran -Jim Rome - and his one word (compound) answer to all the complaints, and coulda/woulda/shoulda's: SCOREBOARD.

(this, from a freeper who didn't particularly care for either team)

The only reason there is any substance to these things is because the announcers on ABC hate the Steelers. Madden got thumped by the Steelers and is still sore about it. Rush Limbaugh is the only fair and balanced (and professional I might add)football announcer that the networks don't have the courage to hire! Steelers won!

If you are taking consolation in what Bayless says then you are grasping at straws. He hates the Steelers as much or more than he hates the Seahawks and knows less about football than any living human being (how else could he keep dissing a team that finishes 14-2?). People can talk all they want about the Seahawks' schedule and the easy ride in the NFC but 14-2 is 14-2 no matter who you played in the NFL.

You guys lost because you gave up big plays and didn't make big plays when you had a chance. Learn to catch, learn to manage the play clock, learn to kick field goals, learn to block without holding, learn to watch for the pass off the reverse, learn to not give up 75 yard runs, and learn to avoid locking your elbow when you're pushing off (which they did ALL night and only got called once) and maybe you'll make it back to the Super Bowl.

Or better yet, make sure your payment to the officials isn’t late.

Fact is Seattle had a ton of chances to win and they didn't. Ben played worse than he did against the Pats in the AFCCG last year and they still couldn't beat him. Seattle choked big time and they're looking for excuses. Most of the calls they are crying about were good calls or close calls. Even so they still had a chance to win and couldn't get it done.

I love when Michaels busts Madden's chops about the Immaculate Reception. Madden has never forgiven us for it and love hearing him sputter about it when he gets going.

I'm still not finished commenting on this whining. Yes, last night on Letterman, Ben DID say that when he went to the sidelines on that THIRD DOWN play he didn't think he got in at first. So, he goes for it on 4th and goal from 1/2 inch. The TD is made, and the game is changed, how exactly?

All of you whiners and others, just WHO held the league MVP running back to under 100 yards?? the officials?

I think the problem with this game was the amount of people watching. No offense to those of you who don't watch football regularly, but you watch a game, you see the Seahawks have more yards and you think, geez why didn't they win.
It happens, and it happens regularly. It wasn't the officials fixing the game.

We had our victory parade today. The seahawks had to cancel their prematurely planned parade.

Madden has never liked the Steelers, it goes back to the 1970's when Chuck Noll called the Raiders the Criminal Element of the NFL. Pittsburgh is a very small TV market, not the darling of the national media. Even though the number one apparel sales this past year happened to be Pittsburgh Steelers attire.

Some of you are commenting on the Sore/Loserman line, I stand by it. SOME of you are seriously acting worse than the democrats after election 2000.

Yes, the Immaculate Reception. The Music City Miracle. The Drew Pearson Hail Mary pass. The “tuck”rule game.

All of these games have a couple of things in common. First, they will not be forgotten. Second, most people believe the officials played a major role in who won and who did not win the game.

Steeler fans should be upset with the officials also. I know Steeler fan’s would have rather won this game without the controversy, but it’s just something they’re going to have to get used to. Wouldn’t they rather give back the 3-4 controversial calls and still beat the Seahawks?

Seattle fan’s will probably be complaining about this game for 30 yrs.

Hell, I was tired of listening to Steeler fans blame O'donnel for 10 yrs. and that had nothing to do with the officials.

I don't feel bad about the win at all. As my old coach used to say "you have to play well enough to beat the referees too." You play the game as it comes to you and we won and they didn't.

We could just as easily have lost the Colts game and everyone would have said it was all the officials fault. But face it, the Steelers let the Colts get back up. We quit throwing and we quit blitzing and we put ourselves in the position of one fluke event changing the game.

I don't blame Neil O'Donnell for losing Super Bowl 30 either. There are too many players and too many plays in a game to pick two plays and say "that lost the game."

Mike Holmgren left two groups off the list of people he said he had to beat to win the Super Bowl. He should have added the Seahawks coaches and players because they made way too many mistakes and mishandled the clock too badly to blame the referees. If Mike and his boys want to know who lost that game all they have to do is look in the mirror.
