AUBURN, CA, United States (UPI) -- A California medical marijuana activist told a judge the synthetic drug he has been getting in jail has been working well to ease his cancer symptoms.

Steve Kubby surprised his supporters at a hearing before a Placer County judge in Auburn, the Los Angeles Times reported. The judge had been expected to rule that Kubby could get marijuana while he is behind bars.

Absorption of drugs through the lung is very fast, some of the effect of the drug could be ascribed to speed of onset of activity, (i.e. if you feel it work fast, you may think it is more potent) This would especially be useful in patients who have sudden urges to vomit, and don't want to wait for the orally absorbed THC to get to work. Inhaled medications have fast onset of activity versus orally ingested meds. The rapid onset of activity may lead patients to perceived increased potency. Could be useful in times of acute sense of nausea and/or vomiting. Whether its better than other methods is debatable. For example, a product could be made which like an is made for acute situation could be self-injected

It's funny how the Drug Warriors trumpet the placebo over the real thing that's readily available and has been proven, throughout history, to alleviate many ailments.

The unavailability of the placebo is it major attraction to the zealots.

'Marijuana supporters "surprised" that one of their numbers would tell the truth.'

Surprised and disappointed.

Surprised and disappointed.

Control zealots are always "surprised" when anyone tells the truth. The truth has no place in the prohibitionists world.

What are the side effects from this synthetic drug?

It lacks the mold, mildew, carcinogens and buzz of dope, among other things,

Kubby has changed his tune.

"Mr. Kubby was asked if he had ever used marinol and he said he had not and would not, because he feared side-effects."

So you're opposed to medical marijuana because it might cause lung cancer? Silly me, I assumed it was because you thought people shouldn't go around getting high. . .

Smoked marijuana works better for some people than Marinol because Marinol has to be ingested orally. Most people who take Marinol or use medical marijuana are doing so for the treatment of nausea. There are obvious drawbacks to treating nausea by taking a pill. Additionally, the absorption time is much longer for oral administration than from inhalation.

The best compromise would be some sort of aerosol, but until then for many people smoking marijuana is the best method to treat nausea and anorexia in terminal illness.

It was "testified during the hearing in April that Kubby would die within four days of not smoking marijuana..."

http://randomactofkindness.com/comments.php?id=P607_0_1_0

The testimony of the dope advocates is going up in smoke.

Marinol has the same intoxicating effects as marijuana if taken at high enough dosages.

"MARINOL® has been proven to be safe and generally well tolerated. The most frequently reported side effects during clinical studies involved the nervous system and included dizziness, feelings of exaggerated happiness, paranoid reaction, drowsiness, and thinking abnormally."

http://www.marinol.com/marinol04.html

Unsurprising that it would have the same effects as THC since it is in fact THC. . .

Use a lower dosage.

Kubby has finally exposed medical marijuana as a scam.

Or that the pharmeceutical lobby won't fight a pill, but something that you can grow on your own? That's beyond the pale!

It's easy to head off in a lot of directions about what medical administration of controlled subtances are and miss the point of what it isnt.

It is not rehabilitative. It in no way addresses the addict/user/abuser's root causal behavior and only circumstantially.

It is a silly palliative.

Works this way from the institution's view: Patient. Palliative.Patient on Ice. No Problem. Insurance Pays.
