AUBURN, CA, United States (UPI) -- A California medical marijuana activist told a judge the synthetic drug he has been getting in jail has been working well to ease his cancer symptoms.
Steve Kubby surprised his supporters at a hearing before a Placer County judge in Auburn, the Los Angeles Times reported. The judge had been expected to rule that Kubby could get marijuana while he is behind bars.

I give this guy a lot of credit. Most activists (on either side of an issue) wald around with blinders on. Being honest and open enough to see the merit of the arguments on "the other side" takes a lot of gut, a lot of character.
You're gonna unleash the Loonytarians !
;-D
Great news! Let's go have a few drinks and celebrate......
Not hardly. Besides, either way the outcome is the same--either he takes THC by smoking or he takes THC by a pill. Why is your reaction so different simply based on the route of administration?
"Medical" Marijuana - The Facts
Medical marijuana already exists. It's called Marinol.
A pharmaceutical product, Marinol, is widely available through prescription. It comes in the form of a pill and is also being studied by researchers for suitability via other delivery methods, such as an inhaler or patch. The active ingredient of Marinol is synthetic THC, which has been found to relieve the nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy for cancer patients and to assist with loss of appetite with AIDS patients.
Unlike smoked marijuana--which contains more than 400 different chemicals, including most of the hazardous chemicals found in tobacco smoke-Marinol has been studied and approved by the medical community and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the nation's watchdog over unsafe and harmful food and drug products. Since the passage of the 1906 Pure Food and Drug Act, any drug that is marketed in the United States must undergo rigorous scientific testing. The approval process mandated by this act ensures that claims of safety and therapeutic value are supported by clinical evidence and keeps unsafe, ineffective and dangerous drugs off the market.
There are no FDA-approved medications that are smoked. For one thing, smoking is generally a poor way to deliver medicine. It is difficult to administer safe, regulated dosages of medicines in smoked form. Secondly, the harmful chemicals and carcinogens that are byproducts of smoking create entirely new health problems. There are four times the level of tar in a marijuana cigarette, for example, than in a tobacco cigarette.

Uhhh, read the article. He's taking THC, which has long been known as the active ingredient in marijuana.
His statement proves nothing of the sort.
Look for their adulation of Kubby to come to a screeching halt. No more martyr.
The medical marijuana movement is about smoking pot. It's a red herring for dope legalization.
"A lot of Character".
For sure. A lot of characters who have learned to exploit the law to perpetuate their drug and alchohol consumption under the guise of some kind of medical "blessing".
The system is loaded with "sharpies" who have "broken the code" and who live "the Life of Rielly" in and out of prison and rehab centers, unrepentant, unrehabilitated and chortling gleefully on their mastery of the "System".
Our only consolation is that at least they are in there and not out here...at a huge cost in tax dollars.
In California, a survey of doctors showed that 99% (yes, 99%) of patients were already smoking marijuana prior to their first visit.
Doctors aren't "recommending" medical marijuana -- they're simply validating it. Oh, and two-thirds of their "patients" smoked marijuana for "pain".
'Marijuana supporters "surprised" that one of their numbers would tell the truth.'
Cool. I have been a supporter of medical marijuana use, and the use of hemp in general for a wide variety of uses, as long as it's truly being used legitimately. This guy seems to have found a substitute that works- good. This issue has doubtless been abused by people that just want to get stoned legally. I hope this helps to put a stop to that.
I like the way they phrased that. "Before returning to California". Like he was on vacation or something.
But, it certainly sounds much better than saying he was forcibly deported by the Canadian government and immediately arrested upon landing in San Francisco on an outstanding warrant for possessing drugs other than marijuana.
No thats not what the article says. he's taking a SYNTHETIC product/ treatment for his cancer pains. NOT THC. And, it's not the THC in MJ that is supposed to be the thing that relieves pain, it's some other "mysterious" property. THC has ZERO effect on pain, and has been proven a thousand times over. MJ has ZERO effect on pain period. People just say it does so they can be legaly stoned.
Marinol is a SYNTHETIC thc. The aricle is screwed up.
Plus he's taking it for nausia, not pain.
What do you expect when the article is from an activist site.
No unbiased view there!
But the chemicals they ingest, don't often let them off
the hook as much as our pseudo-tolerant society does.
They pay with messed up brains, livers, guts, and hearts(
straight alcohol is not good for cardiac muscle tissue,
though someof the other ingredients in fermented
products may actually confer some benefits to circulation)
MJ has ZERO effect on pain period. People just say it does so they can be legaly stoned
Why should anyone care if an adult is 'stoned'?
If it's legal to be stoned on booze, why is it illegal to be stoned on grass? -- [There is no rational answer, of course.] --
It's funny how the Drug Warriors trumpet the placebo over the real thing that's readily available and has been proven, throughout history, to alleviate many ailments.
