I know there have been other postings on this subject. This is the first one I have seen though that states the U.S. does back the press also. All of the articles posted have (that I know of) all said the U.S. was on the side of the Muslims. I just wanted to point out that the U.S. does back the freedom of the press as well.

The truth is getting out, little by little, with the help of a few freepers who have been investigating this story.

This statement I can agree with. Muslims should be equally upset with the way Jews and Christians are portrayed in their media.

Are they pulling an Oprah or is this they way they have felt the whole time? It's the first I've heard that they did the right thing.

How about the State Department saying "we're sick and tired of the kidnappings and beheading of innocents and hearing nothing but crickets chirping from the Arab Street; it's about time that you've been described in the press for the murderous, barbarous psychopaths that you are".

I would like to see the State Department's official policy statement on this; not a press briefing or press account. Not looking for flames here; just the actual written policy.

He urged Muslims to "speak out with equal vigor" when "they see similar views or images that could be perceived as anti-Semitic or anti-Catholic."
Yeah, that'll happen.

He urged Muslims to "speak out with equal vigor" when "they see similar views or images that could be perceived as anti-Semitic or anti-Catholic." Yep. Like that's gonna happen.
To: FloridianBushFan
It also urged Muslims...to express outrage when they see anti-Christian or anti-Semitic publications.Hope nobody at Foggy Bottom is holding their breath for that to happen.
Interesting how it took so long for the "outrage" to get cooked up. Takes a lot of work to be "spontaneous". And the protestors are still only hundreds out of over a billion people.

"express outrage when they see unchristian or antisemitic publications." Is this guy serious? This murderous cult calls for death and holocaust when it perceives the slightest offense against its vile beliefs. And this idiot diplomat suggests to these nuts that they widen the scope of what outrages them?

Our State Department, under the "leadership" of President Bush will continue to pander to Islam.
Islam is NOT a "religion" of "peace".
It's a violent and murderous governmental elitist system disguised as a religion that is even more dangerous than communism.
Put it in the bank.
Our war is not against "Islamofacists". It is against Islam. Period.

These protesting Muslims have NO idea how frightened, weak and pathetic they look -- for their not being able to tolerate criticism, snubs and non-religious behavior, real OR imagined. Obviously, they do NOT have confidence in their outwardly-professed convictions or their ability to defend them or advocate them intellectually; they must not even believe them themselves, deep down.
Very pitiful, VERY sorry, self-doubting little people are the ones who get obsessed (even frightened by!) what others might think. And their CHOICE of what to get upset about in the face of all the REAL outrages they could have gotten upset over, as everyone here has pointed out, is especially pathetic -- as well as primitive, barbaric and, yes, insane.

The "press" lied to us (by omission of fact, one of their usual approaches) about the context and content of the State Dept's statement.
