The Beginning of Armageddon

The Beginning of Armageddon?

By Jerry Gordon, former U.S. military intelligence officer and Middle East Analyst for American Congress for Truth.

Israel, the US and the West have lost in the Middle East because of a delusion - the Bush version of the Wilsonian dream of national sovereignty and "democracy" has no traction in the cradle of political Jihad Islam. Wilson's League of Nation dream didn't prevent the rise of Herr Hitler and his Nazi thugs who gave us the Shoah and six million dead European Jews whose memories we commemorated on Friday at the UN and in dozens of civilized countries around the globe.

In a strange way Princeton Emeritus Professor and Vice President Dick Cheney's favorite Middle East policy wonk, Bernard Lewis and the neo-cons have lost. But my friends Bat Ye'or, Bob Spencer and Andrew Boston have won a Pyrrhic victory ("literally winning the battle and losing the war).

Bush and Condi miscalculated and so did Sharon and Olmert.

Bringing liberty and democracy to Islamic lands was a fool's errand from the get go.

What we got was the rise of xenophobic Islamic Jihadism fueled by barbarous tribal and clan warfare.

Let's look at the track record last year and this New Year.

The US encouraged Iranian dissidents and moderates to protest by not voting last June and look what we have- a "terpich fresser" (" carpet eater" in German- a term used to describe madman Hitler) in Tehran lunatic apocalyptic President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad brandishing his nuclear scimitar at Israel and the West and telling Bush and the EU to stuff it. Meanwhile Russia, China and even India are bought off by billion dollar trade and arms deals with Iran ensuring no UN security actions. Nary a glove is laid on Iran's patent "Judenhass" (German for Jewish hatred) on this UN's first Holocaust Memorial Day, Friday.

Also in June in Lebanon after four rounds of voting in the first, Hezbollah and allied parties win 35 seats out of 128 in the Lebanese parliament. Hezbollah literally announces takeover of all of South Lebanon and threatens the new government with secession. Iran pours in over $600 million in "assistance" to Hezbollah annually and Hezbollah earns another $600 million from telephone card monopolies and drug dealing producing a billion dollar plus war chest. Hezbollah has tens of thousands of rockets, artillery, munitions, arms and vehicles in those underground bunkers in the Bekaa Valley. Hezbollah begins actions against Northern Israel. Hezbollah now mans all of the guard posts-some directly overlooking Israel's northern road along the border with Lebanon. Opposition leaders in Lebanon are continually assassinated presumably by Syrian backed operatives.

August, Sharon and Olmert engineer the unilateral withdrawal from Gaza creating a mini-Hamastan and seeds of civil war between Fatah and Hamas. 9,000 Jews are displaced to live in caravan and hotel squalor inside the green line and upwards of 5,000 Arab jobs are destroyed along with $75 to $100 million from vegetable and herb export earnings from high tech greenhouses, since destroyed. Security for Israel is lost despite the move.

Tons of arms, weapons and millions of dollars pour into Gaza from al Qaeda and Iran-backed Islamic Jihad.

Then comes September and aging Egyptian dictator/ruler Mubarak now has 79 members of the Muslim Brotherhood sitting in his phony parliament and waging war against Coptic Christians. Copts account for 12 to 15 million out of Egypt's 80 million in population and they have five seats and all the women have another five. Sharia dhimmitude basically takes over. The Mubarak dynasty will never retain control in this decade.

In mid-November, Dr. Rice and entourage fly in on the weekend of November 12th to jam it to the Israelis to enter an unsigned agreement to open up the Rafah gap border with Egypt. Mayhem occurs as Hamas and al Qaeda pour in operatives, arms and munitions and the rain of Qassem rockets begins to fall on Northern Sinai and Ashkelon in Israel.

December 15th, elections occur in Iraq and the pre-dominate party elected is a Shia Islamists group, now in fractious negotiations with minority Sunnis which may blow up in the faces of the desperate US Ambassador, Afghan born Zalmay Khalilzad, Dr. Rice and President Bush. The Kurds are simply angling for justifiable regional autonomy. Meanwhile neighboring Iran trains and funds insurgents in the country to foment turmoil.

January 25th, Hamas-an offshoot of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood wins an overwhelming majority of the Palestinian Legislative Council and violence erupts with disenfranchised Fatah gunmen in Gaza and the West Bank. Exiled Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal, in Damascus says the armed struggle against Israel will not cease.

All this in a Damascus, where we now learn from Saddam's former Air Force head where they took most of the WMD makings. A Damascus where diminutive Iran President Ahmadinejad and towering Syrian President Assad held a photo op and war council prior to the Palestinian Legislative Council vote. Doubtless they met secretly to cement terror funding with both Hamas and Hezbollah leaders for actions against Israel following the "surprise" Hamas win of last Wednesday.

What's the score so far in this "great game" in baseball argot: Jihad 7. Israel and the West zip!

The green flag of Jihadists Islam advances everywhere in the Middle East. The foolish western chimera (the mythological animal-half lion and half goat) of liberty and democracy for Muslim chimerlands in the Middle East is a failed delusion.

Olmert and the Kadimah leadership, Rice and Bush are like the Vichy French police chief portrayed by the late British film actor Claude Rains who spoke that fabled line in the Bogie movie, "Casablanca": "I'm shocked, shocked."

Looks like the beginning of Armageddon to me.

The URL link isn't working.. but based on the lunacy written, it probably isn't worth the bandwidth. Who is the author? I'll add them to my avoid list.

Idiots like Jerry Gordon, who know little to nothing about Islam and less about the Middle East, have no business writing "know it all" articles whose sole focus is to bash Bush or promote isolationism.

Bringing liberty and democracy to Islamic lands was a fool's errand from the get go.

Unfortunately, the author may be correct about this. However, what else was there to be done? At least democracy is worth a try!!

Bringing Liberty and Democracy is NOT a fools errand. It is an important long term strategic step to CLARIFY your enemies. If the radical branches of any country take power and will not abide by acceptable civilized behavior, it becomes much easier to carry the war to the enemy and kill them.

The whole point of this effort is to get people to see the carrot and the stick. Play nice, you and your country can live how you like in your own little sand box. Don't play nice and you will get slapped down... HARD... enough so that you will loose power and the other people who are more willing to stay in their own little sand box will take power.

Gather your enemies in one place and kill them

I don't believe in the author's entire premise that bringing democracy to Islamic lands is a fool's errand, as he puts it. The fundamental premise is that they are unable to be democratic in any form because of either religion or culture- both of which are wrong. The youth movement in Iran is proof that both culture and religion don't clash with the desire for freedom. We have countless examples of non-Arab Islamic countries in the former Soviet bloc, that are embracing democracy. Too often, people look at who makes the news and judges the whole by the few. This is as false of a notion as watching our nihilistic lefties protesting and judging the US by them.

The defeatism expressed in this article has historically, always been proven wrong. The observation of Armageddon, as suggested in the title, has been 'proven' through countless generations from the fall of Masada, to the Crusades, to now the wars in the Middle East. I'll go with history to see that all those who knew Armageddon was eminent, were wrong.

I think Sharon did this in Gaza (got his enemies separated from his own people and in a box).

Take a realistic look at things from the simplest to the most complex and just about every problem takes as long to fix as it did to create.

Take a look at the rise of Russian Communism in the early 20th century until it fell apart in the late 80s-early 90s.

The middle point was about the start of the cold war, which Reagan won.

Any hysterics about the failure of democracy in the middle east are far too premature.

I think you are right. It has to be worth a try because without the free flow of mid-east oil western civilization ceases to exist. You can talk about alternatives and bio mass and wind turbines and whatever, but for the foreseable
future civilization is at risk because of the mis-placement of oil fields in politically explosive areas of the world. The alternative is Bin Ladin control of the world's oil reserves. We have a fifth column in this country which rejoices in the stoppage of realistic development of energy. Therefore, civilization teeters on the verge of collapse at hands of Islamic Terrorism.

"Bringing liberty and democracy to Islamic lands was a fool's errand from the get go."

I don't accept this premise in the least, for it is a judgment that can only be made after one or two decades of attempted democratization in Islamic lands.

If one accepts this judgment now, it's akin to the rest of the world covering their collective eyes, ears, and mouth in hopes that radical Islam will abandon goals of conquest, become moderate and disappear on its own. Talk about a fool's errand!

However, what else was there to be done? At least democracy is worth a try!!

Don't mean to be Clintonian but it all depends on the meaning of or style of democracy. Democracy, as we know it, and Islam are mutually exclusive. Anyone claiming otherwise take us for fools.

To believe that to exercise the voting ritual is a sign of "democracy" is pure bunk. The former Soviet Union held elections on a regular basis with a voter turnout in the 90%+ range, yet it was a far cry from a democracy.

Sometimes our politicians have too much time on their hands and are too concerned about their legacies that they get the rest of us in messes we'd be better off not being in. Oh, I know..fighting terrorism and all that stuff......but come on, enough is enough.......either sh*t or get off the pot...........

Armageddon was a town in current day Israel that was attacked, laid siege to, and sacked by the egyptian army.

http://philologos.org/bpr/files/a005.htm

Saw a discovery channel show about it recently. I guess I should have learned or read about it before, but there are always gaps.

It is another name for the plain of Megiddo in Israel where the battle at the Second Coming will be fought. It is rendered Har-Magedon in Revelation.
