Fresh protests are expected on Friday by Muslims angered by the publication of newspaper cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad.
Iraqi, Egyptian and Palestinian Islamic groups have called for demonstrations as Muslims attend prayers on Friday.
The cartoons - first seen in Denmark and then reprinted in European papers - have provoked protests and a debate over the limits of freedom of speech.
Denmark's prime minister has appeared on Arabic TV to appeal for calm.
Anders Fogh Rasmussen told the Dubai-based al-Arabiya channel he was sorry for any offence caused but insisted his government was not responsible for newspaper articles.
Sackings
One of the cartoons shows the Prophet wearing a headdress shaped like a bomb, while another shows him saying that paradise is running short of virgins for suicide bombers.
Islamic tradition bans depictions of the Prophet or Allah.
Editors of Jordanian and French newspapers who chose to republish the cartoons have been dismissed.
The Palestinian militant group, Hamas, has called for mass demonstrations over the cartoons in Gaza.
Gunmen surrounded the office of the European Union in Gaza on Thursday, demanding an apology.
Norway closed its mission to the public in the West Bank after two militant groups threatened Norwegians, Danes and French people.
Journalists and aid workers from western countries have reportedly been leaving the Palestinian territories, fearing attack.
Hundreds of students earlier demonstrated in the Pakistani cities of Lahore and Multan, burning flags and effigies of the Danish prime minister.

And if they find this site, there'll be hell to pay...
More cartoon protests from the muslims?
What else is new?
No, wait: you mean they're protesting cartoons?
I thought it was their protests that were cartoons...
For this VERY reason - they KNEW he''d be such an easy target to lampoon!
May as well: it's apparent none of the murderous scum work for a living.
yeah, but here's a redo of that editorial cartoon. A stab at thee Islamic terrorists! If they don't have thick skin for this sort of thing, well, hells bells, maybe they need to be "democratized"?

Miniature of Mohammed re-dedicating the Black Stone at the Kaaba. From Jami Al-Tawarikh, by Rashid Al-Din, 1324. Notice how Mohammed's face and body are shown completely, despite this painting being by a Muslim artist in Mecca itself. Note also idolatrous Muslim 'holy' stone. As can be seen by this Muslim drawing from Mecca the flat-earth believing Muslims don't have any real restrictions against depictions of Muhammad or idolatry. The ones who say they do merely lie all the time and have no credibility or real faith or knowledge.
Interesting poll on Sky News:
80 percent of Britons want UK media to publish the cartoons.
There was already demonstrations outside the BBC offices last night, after the BBC news showed a brief glimpse of the cartoons yesterday.
No kidding!
They'll need their turbans to keep their heads from exploding!
Beheaded chickens behave more rationally than angry muslims.
"Democratized?"
What, you want to make them associate with the likes of Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, and John Kerry?
Cripes, but that's inhuman!
Sheesh, Muslims protest cartoons while they hack the heads off of reporters. Something is seriously wrong with their brain pans. Perhaps it is rabies?
How we supposed to know that's mohammed that Gabriel is carrying?
He got a 12-year-old girl stashed somewhere?

Good job.
Why is it that it's always the Muslims that are so ' offended' by something, yet they are completlely silent in the fact that in many of the worlds hot spots, some Muslim is kiling another Muslim for not being 'muslim enough.' Who decides?
They already have; this site is blocked in United Arab Emirates.
Praying?
Ahhh, I thought they were required to moon the moon god 5 times a day.
