The question is pretty clear to me. James A. Garfield is the answer, he went from a sitting Rep. and ascended to the White House as elected President. In this order: GHWB was a representative, then UN Amb, then the Chair of the RNC, then the CIA Director, Veep for 8 years, and then he was elected President for one term. GHWB was the Veep and ascended to the Presidency.

Sure. I indicated a question and gave credit for John Boehner's answer. You didn't credit it with a link to the sourced material. If you had taken English Lit in high school you would have been told to source your material.

Looks like he ran for the Senate but his seat was taken by Sherman. He was elected President in 1880, so with a two year gap, he went from the House to the White House.Yep, and GHWB went from U.S. Congressman for the 7th District of Texas to U.S. Amb. to the U.N. from 1971-1973.
There's also this from your link as well
Garfield is the only person who was elected president directly from the United States House of Representatives.

And over on another thread, the Donner Party FReepers are burning him in effigy. That's a shame. He's the most conservative member of the Senate.

go ahead and keep making excuses, just like when you are wrong about everything else.
It doesn't say much for you Tread.....
Like I said, go back to misreading your Jane's Defence Weekly so you can screw that up as well.

Six posts previous to yours, I told Peach that it was James Garfield directly from the House to the president, and it was George Herbert Walker Bush the last Representative to have been elected president.
I am still correct on both counts.
You are still late at the switch.

And weren't the Baptists relegated to Rhode Island during those years?
What are the dates of the head tax per Catholic, and the NE colonies losing their charters?

Yes...........we all know about the special bathtub they had to put in the WH.
THINK about our Presidents, onyx. WH Harrison, 3 months, Grant, not exactly a success story, Garfield, assassinated, B Harrison, undistinguished, Hayes, won by losing, McKinley, assassinated, Taft, a behemouth and Harding, one of the worst.
Quite a history our Ohio Presidents have, isn't it? LOL!

All you had to do was ask for a link. More then happy to supply one. No need to act like an outraged liberal or to stir up more trouble. Here's your link:

I did pick him....smarter than the average bear..JakeJake, Boehner has paid his dues in lower House leadership positions. He reminds me a little too much of Trent Lott in that they both have perfect "helmet" haircuts and are almost fussy in their perfect way of dressing. But he has been a loyal soldier in the House ever since he first went to DC, so he deserves a shot at senior leadership.
If he does a good job and Hastert steps down in a couple of years, Boehner could wind up as the next Speaker of the House.

I don't think that Boehner is all of that fiscally conservative. I totally agree. That's why I put "fiscally conservative" in quotes as that was a reference back to another individual's posted comments.
To: Torie
I took a look at it when it first came out, but haven't read the whole thing. What do you like most about it? Maybe I'll take another look.
Albion's Seed by David Hackett Fischer goes over a lot of the same territory.
Kevin Phillips, though, is the guy who got what he wanted -- a national political realignment -- and has been complaining about it ever since. His devoting so much energy sort to changing American politics and lamenting the results so much afterwards, gives one reason for skepticism about his punditry.
