IT'S BOEHNER, 122-109
Thank you, Jake, for the info.
Boehner is a nice Catholic boy? (I hope).
For bonus points, who was the other president that served in the House, and then was out of government until elected president?
hehe I know :)
Lincoln???
Honest Abe?
You're having quite a night -- what with a queen and this...lol.
It's gotten to the point where we don't even really see many senators become president anymore; too easy for their votes to be used against them.
Ford was a congressman and became VP after Agnew resigned and then became president but it's unlikely without that stop in the VP spot that he'd ever have run directly for the presidency while a Representative.
We have a winner!
yeah....
but that's possibly a good thing. New blood getting into the process and all.
yeah...
It happens :)
no worries here...
Yep. I just got a refresher course reading the most excellent book Doris Kearns Goodwin wrote on Lincoln and his party opponents. Lincoln was one superb politician.
I really like Sen. Cornyn, but don't know if he has any interest. Anyway -- see you round the threads tomorrow probably. Off to read for a while. A book, not FR. LOL
heh yep :)
It's Blue Jackets time for me :)
Sweet!!
I am reading Gods and Generals at the moment....
Garfield..........from Ohio, of course. He got assassinated as most Presidents from Ohio did...........well, not MOST, but two, and then there was WH Harrison who got pneumonia at his Inauguration.
We have a lot of Presidents from Ohio, but they didn't seem to live long.........
My S-i-L loved it, but I have a deep distrust of Goodwin.
I will read it on your recommendation. It sounded fascinating.
GREAT book! What a HERO Chamberlain was!
a very smart man too....
And over on another thread, the Donner Party FReepers are burning him in effigy.
