Santorum is running for re-election and doing anything he thinks we'll help him win election in a Dem state.

I wouldn't say it disqualifies him as a conservative. I would say it indicates desperation to retain his position, evidence he thinks he's in a weakened position in his race.

Enviable conduct? No, but not quite as your outline it to be.

His campaign for majority leader was to run to the left of Blunt and Shadegg. You don't think he know who he is?

Jeff Flake supported Shadegg for the same reason.

I'm sure that a common state had something to do with it, but Flake is very similar to Shadegg ideologically. He's one of my favorites.

Why did he run to the left and get the backing of leftleaning republicans?

I've always been impressed by Boehner's matureness, professionalism and coolness under fire. During the Clinton impeachment mess he was an outstanding parliamentarian who commanded respect and did the people's business efficiently and fairly. Total professional.

No drama or histrionics. Just what we need.

He's earned my trust.

Pardon me if I don't put much credence in a post from somebody who says Boehner is a liberal.

"I think he's a RINO. Very much against the 2nd Amendment."

Huh?

Boehner scores A by NRA on pro-gun rights policies
Voted YES on decreasing gun waiting period from 3 days to 1.
Voted YES on prohibiting suing gunmakers & sellers for gun misuse.

Do you have something different?

Boehner voted against it.

Right and the bill passed 260-159.

Why?

Question:“Why did you vote against the recent border security bill, H.R. 4437? Do you support amnesty for illegal immigrants?”

Boehner: H.R. 4437 has a number of strong provisions aimed at stemming the tide of illegal immigration, all of which I support.

I opposed one section of the bill that places a massive unfunded mandate on small businesses. I for one don’t think we stop illegal immigration by strangling the small businesses that are the backbone of our economy. Nor do I believe it is right to turn small business owners into felons for failing to do the federal government’s job of protecting the borders. Had it not been for this one section, I would have supported the bill.

I worked with colleagues of mine to address these concerns, but we were not allowed to offer an amendment. And my committee, which has jurisdiction over these employer issues, was only given twenty-four hours to review the bill. That’s not enough time to fully review a massive piece of legislation and offer substantive changes.

The only way to make my voice heard was to cast a risky vote. I did so, and I have no regrets.

As for the second question: no. I do not support giving amnesty to illegal immigrants. I never have and I never will. Illegal immigrants are just that -- illegal. Their first act upon entering our country was to break our laws and they need to be held accountable.

Boehner's voting record on social and economic isues and his interest group ratings are almost identical to Blunt, with the only difference I could find being on an immigration vote. I ain't gonna complain.

Read it and weep: Boehner's team has a more moderate cast, perhaps to reach out more readily to those caucus members who aren't close to Blunt. Reps. Melissa Hart (Penn.), John Kline (Minn.), Thad McCotter (Mich.), Devin Nunes (Calif.), Jim Saxton (N.J), Mike Simpson (Idaho), and Pat Tiberi (Ohio). Hart and Saxton especially are viewed as more moderate than other members of Boehner's team. Kline was another of the caucus members willing to sign on to an election petition.

Yeah, I can SEE the votes; but where is your proof that Beohner is for OPEN BORDERS, which is what you said?

Sorry...Santorum can be my ally,he can be my friend, but in no way anyone who has their finger in the wind as much as him can call himself a conservative.
