Alito Casts First Vote in Supreme Court

WASHINGTON - New Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito cast his first vote on Wednesday, as the court refused to give Missouri permission to immediately execute a man who killed a teenage honor student. The court's 9-0 action was procedural, however, because a stay was already set to expire Wednesday afternoon.

Separately, the court acting without Alito rejected Michael Taylor's appeal that argued that Missouri's death penalty system is racist. Taylor is black and his victim was white.

Those liberals crack me up. A black man murders a white man, and then complains that the law that convicts him is racist!

-----
Why, yes, heaven forbid that we execute a BLACK murderer because that would be racist...white, yellow, brown -- no problem. No racism there.

The usual claim is that killers of whites are more likely to get the death penalty than killers of blacks. If anybody wanted to crunch the numbers, I suspect it would be found that this disparity is related to the likelihood that black victims are less likely to be truly "innocent victims" than are white victims. Juries are less likely to impose the death penalty when one thug kills another than when a thug kills an innocent person.

The claim also requires ignoring the statistical fact that white killers are slightly more likely to get the death penalty than are black killers.

Man, them Supremes are tough on the new hires! Not even time to settle into his desk, find the supply cabinet, scope out where the break room is, and already they have Alito voting on death penalty proceedural cases.

I know it's a lifetime job, but does it have to start so soon?

This concept of "votes" needs to be excoriated in the press.

They do not VOTE in the clean definition of the word.

Where did this start?

They make decisions on the Court, not freaking votes!

Things are already OVER POLITICIZED at the court as it is, without us allowing the press to start casting ideas that they will use to beat us with the NEXT time a SCJ retires.

Justice Alito has been on the SCOTUS for more than 24 hrs. When is he going to crown Bush king? Slacker.

Taylor, 39, of Kansas City, and his co-defendant, Roderick Nunley, 40, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, forcible rape, armed criminal action and kidnapping for the March 1989 killing of 15-year-old Ann Harrison.

Taylor and Nunley have said they had been using drugs and wanted to steal Harrison’s purse when they got the girl into their stolen vehicle. Taylor raped Harrison in Nunley’s mother’s basement. Fearing she would identify them, the two men killed the teenager.

Both were sentenced to death in 1991. After their sentences were overturned, they were again sentenced to death in 1994.

The Missouri Supreme Court is expected to set an execution date soon for Nunley.

----- Keep an eye on your children at all times. There are monsters out there intent on raping, prostituting and killing your little girl.

I cannot imagine the horror of such an occurrence.

I know of a 19yo that has spent the better part of the last 4-5 years on the Net in chat rooms, relatively smug about the dangers she must navigate and avoid.

There was a really good made for TV movie about a real life situation, where, after the guy was found out...the Mom was small enough and little voiced enough that she posed for police programs...and eventually unearthed the same animal that ALMOST got their daughter.

According the movie, his butt was caught and prosecuted for internet setup of sex with a minor (he thought she was 15), and child pornography.

Wicked, evil, disgusting, crawling out of the slime of society...predators, pieces of trash!!!

They make my stomach turn, and I hope and pray they all trip up at some point...and get nailed but good. This kind of stuff ought to carry a death penalty EVEN if the girl is NOT killed.

It is just so heinous...a society has got to do it...or cease to exist as we know it.
