Although mental illness is no excuse for criminal behaviors, it is a mitigating factor.

"A prosecution expert claimed she was sane and merely imitating a law and order episode, which, in truth, had not aired at the time of the killings. "

Now, that's INSANE!

Obviously the witness was wrong. Besides this case was clear cut on its own. They didn't need a witness to prop it up. It screams for capital punishment.

I don't think she should have been executed. I'm all for the death penalty.

I worked at ESL when Richard Farley came in and killed 7 of my co-workers. He planned the action for months. He rented an RV and filled it with guns and ammunition, and then he came to my work and shot and killed my co-workers. Richard Farley was not crazy at the time, and he got the death penalty (which unfortunately has not been carried out yet and it's been over 15 years). I think it is justified.

Anyway, I think Andrea Yates cracked up and killed her kids. She was in and out of mental institutions, and she never should have been left alone with the children. I think the husband is as guilty as her for leaving the kids alone with her.

However, I think that when a crazy person (Yates and the guy who shot Reagan) commits a major crime I do not think they should be set free. At the very least, they should be incarcerated for the rest of their lives in a mental institution. What happens to these people if they stop taking their medications?

However, they are thinking of letting the guy who shot Reagan out.

First I didn't know who "Cindy" was, and now "andrea". Man, I gotta get out more. There must be some really bad women out there. I'm sure as I read the thread my memory will be jogged.

Completely correct. That fraud of a preacher is as much to blame as anyone. And the husband what a PoS. "Sure the house was burning down but I figured the kids would be ok."

When you’re a woman and you get in trouble, the most importing thing to do is find a man to blame.

I swear the single most defining feminine trait is the inability to accept responsibility for one’s actions.

She chased down her FIVE CHILDREN and drowned them ONE BY ONE over their pleas for mercy and cries of protestation.

If a man had done this, the only thing we’d be talking about is what tree to hang him from.

IMHO, the husband is at least partially culpable for leaving the kids with a woman who so clearly had a more than a few screws loose.
---
In the husband's defense, he had to go to work and his or her mother was supposed to be there in a half an hour to watch over his wife. He probably thought nothing could happen in a mere half hour, certainly nothing like this. No question, a big mistake.

Not in my case. I don't like women who stay married to men that abuse them and their children. It's one thing to take abuse themselves, but to put your children in harm is another thing.

Andrea Yates was a loon, and should never have been left with her kids. First, she already had post-pardum depression, and then her husband gets her pregnant with another child??? Why???? Then they are homeschooling their kids??? The woman can't handle things, and she's homeschooling kids. Then they lived in a bus. I don't know who's crazier, the husand or Andrea.

Why did her get her pregnant after she already had post-pardum depression?????

What's more important: getting to work on time, or keeping your children safe.

Do you think she should be executed?

I don't think she should be executed, but I do think she should be in a mental institution for the rest of her life.

However, I'd like to see something happen to the husband, also.

Just like the people that leave their kids in hot cars, and their kids die from the heat.

I don't have much sympathy for those parents either.

boy talk about somebody who takes his vows seriously. For better or for worse was written specifically for him. He must still love her and only divorced her due to being in prision or someother reason that had nothing to do with really wanting to divorse the women.

BAIL?!?

I first read that as "ball" and my first thought was, "I hope it's at least 60-calibre, and applied to her left temple."

Just picture her chasing her children around the house, them screaming, "No, Mommy, please no!"

I do, and I'd gladly be the one to stick the needle in her arm.

"Can yo imagine the last thing he saw was his mother struggling to keep his head under water to murder him?"

Yes, I can imagine that; is there any way someone could return the favor?

I'd volunteer.

"Unbelievable -- that this would happen in Texas."

Indeed.

Where's a lynch mob when you really need one?
