I would assume as he was the passenger there was not much he could do. The officer did not know or care as they were fleeing suspects. Hindsight is always 20/20.

However after watching the video I think the deputy is in the wrong line of work and should be prosecuted.

What the hell is a military police officer doing, getting involved in something like this?

He was a passenger, not the driver. He was home on leave, riding with a buddy. Passenger doesn't have much say in how the driver behaves. Wouldn't be surprised if he was screaming at the driver to slow down and then to pull over for the deputy.

Hope the witness made a copy and kept it.

It's a sure bet the sheriff's office didn't release their copy. Another story says that the guy who shot the video made a copy, and gave a copy of that to the local TV station.

You don't order a suspect to get up and then shoot him for getting up.

"You don't order a suspect to get up and then shoot him for getting up."

I don't, and you don't, but apparently this cop did just that. He'll be regretting it for a long, long time. I'm so glad the guy he shot didn't die.

Under no circumstances should you ever give your only copy of a video or a photo to any cops. Too much temptation for it to get "lost" or othewise damaged.

Whose to say the mp wanted to be involved in something like this? He was the passenger in the car and not truly in control of the situation. I know that I have been the passenger in a car where the driver did somethings that I didn't really like. Last time I ever was a pasenger of theirs.

Home from the war, friend has a Corvette and wants to take you out for the evening, celebrate!

Probably hit 100 before leaving the neighborhood(I believe it specifically states that in the article).

Maybe the soldier and his friend had already had one or two drinks.

Maybe they were only hotrodding it a bit, and when the cops started chase, the driver panicked and tried to flee.

Maybe the passenger suggested they pull over.

If they were transporting drugs, why were none found?

If the driver was a wanted felon, why are there no charges?

Why, if they were handcuffed, did the officer fire four shots into the passengers back?

Your turn.

Let's hope we don't get magic FBI backing of a militarized LEO.

>i>"...but how's the FBI get jurisdiction here?"

Might be a "hate crime"?

I'd say your description of the lead-up is pretty reasonable.

The witness turned the videotape over to the sherriff's office. I hope they don't "lose" it.

It won't get "lost". The MSM had this all over their wires showing the incident - even Katie Couric looked like she'd gone for a tussle.

Carrion and Ruiz need to take the Chino PD down.

Why, if they were handcuffed, did the officer fire four shots into the passengers back?

They weren't handcuffed. But the deputy did have his weapon drawn, that much is clear even on the poor quality tape. He holstered it after shooting the Airman, although not instantly, even though the other guy was still there, and still not cuffed. And the other guy was the driver!

I'd say he realized what he'd just done, that is bit the big one. The good news is the Airmen will survive, and the bad news is, the incident was video taped, there were other witnesses, and the Airman will survive.

If the victim's lawyer has any sense at all, the Airman will be in his Service Dress uniform for the civil trial, with his SP badge in it's proper place on the uniform, as well as his Iraqi Freedom campaign ribbon. The attorney should ask him what the badge means, and what each ribbon means.

"What the hell is a military police officer doing, getting involved in something like this?"

The friend was probably showing off his new vet. The incident began as a speeding violation. The driver apparently decided to flee. The passenger had no choice.
