In the court (and courts) of life and death, a little 11-year-old Massachusetts girl named Haleigh Poutre could be the next Terri Schiavo. For those who have not heard the tragic story, Haleigh was beaten nearly to death last September, allegedly by her adoptive mother and stepfather. The beating left her unconscious and barely clinging to life.
Within a week or so of the beating, her doctors had written her off. They apparently told Haleigh's court-appointed guardian, Harry Spence, that she was "virtually brain dead." Even though he had never visited her, Spence quickly went to court seeking permission to remove her respirator and feeding tube. The court agreed, a decision affirmed recently by the supreme court of Massachusetts.
And so, no doubt with the best of intentions, a little girl who had already suffered so much was stripped by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts of even the chance to fight to stay alive. If she didn't stop breathing when the respirator was removed, which doctors expected, she would slowly dehydrate to death.
Close Call
Then came the unexpected:

There are lots of things government should look into. Unfortunately, fraud perpetrated on taxpayers doesn't seem to be one of them. People who actually need help don't get it, and maybe the reason is that the people who shouldn't be taking advantage of the system, do it.

Excellent! I especially liked this:
We may properly speculate from these experiences that God has His own communication channel to each of us.
He is God, after all!

Well, this doesn't surprise me. I'm sure we don't hear about many cases where someone is brain damaged and the state tries to end their life before they COULD start healing from their brain injury.

There have been several instances where pilots have been "laser beamed" recently. Not funny, and there doesn't seem to be any follow up stories on the occurrences. Why am I not surprised.
Henri Paul had long standing service. If he was a drunk, don't you think that he would have been discharged long before this occurred? The fact that not only was Diana more popular than Charles, but also the fact that there was the possibility of her marrying Dodi Al Fayed, makes me believe that she and Dodi were assassinated.
I think it is plausible that a laser beam could have been used to cause the driver to lose control. Thank you for the ping.
Dodi's father was absolutely heartbroken. I believe that he loved his son with all his heart, and loved Diana as a daughter. People can say what they want about Diana, but she evolved from a timid, lumpy brood mare, into a woman who did a lot of good for a lot of people. She had her faults, but if Mother Theresa liked her, that's good enough for me.

I think that what happened to Terri, rubbed everyone's noses into the ugliness that is euthanasia. At least starvation and dehydration. Murder is still murder, but if you're gonna kill someone, give them a hot shot. 8, 13, 24 days of prolonged agony, is the most barbaric, disgusting thing I've ever heard of. I don't believe in euthanasia, btw, I'm just saying there are better ways to murder an inconvenient person.
The Netherlands have been dabbling in assisted suicide, euthanasia, and infanticide for quite a few years.

I have more respect for someone who blows another away with a shotgun than someone who tries to dress up the act and ekes pleasure out of the subtle cruelties of "happy" death like the Murder at Woodside and all the euphemisms surrounding it.

Exactly. Why didn't the creep just smother her with a pillow, instead of going putting Terri through hell? I know why, and I suspect you do too.

That day it came out, we were at a motorcross race south of Paris as people ran through the crowd shouting (phoenetically) La Dee Dee. I thought it comical until I realised they meant Lady Di. Immediate reaction and immediate (later censored) news reports left all people we talked with to understand it was an assassination, and a clumsy one at that.
None of us who ever worked with chauffers in Paris would even start to believe the story that Henri Paul was drunk. It did not fit.
As always, it seems, facts changed later and the details and photos changed. Our friends and family there were resigned to the change as just business as usual. Consensus amongst friends was that she was finished off during the very slow ambulance ride to the hospital.

Oh? You can't use lethal injections. Spoils the organs and wrecks the patient's salvage value. Similar for machine guns, daggers, bow and arrows, machetes, spears, artillery and small nukes. According to major league rules, you can't even use a baseball bat if the batter has used steroids.
Really, murder should be tested on lab rats first, to make sure it's safe. The PETA and Animal Liberation Front types would scream about it and turn all your lab rats loose in downtown Palm Springs, but you have to start somewhere.

He did, and all that did was leave him stuck with her for another 15 years.

We may properly speculate from these experiences that God has His own communication channel to each of us. It cannot conceivably depend on the condition of our brain or any other organ. Euthanists are materialists.Very well put.
Interesting that Felos thinks he can communicate mind-to-mind with people who can't talk, but Felos didn't mention that a severely disabled Terri might have been in communication with God.

watched a bit of a movie with my daughter the other day.....To me, it's the same with way Terri and many other brain-injured patients. We don't *know* what they experience, yet. Our science isn't good enough to explain it, yet. We know so little about the way the human body works, yet some of us are willing to put someone to death because we can't explain what is going on with that person. |
What a great way to look at this!
|
As I had said while Terri Schiavo's life hung in the balance, those who are doubtful as to the patient's condition prefer to err on the side of life. The only ones who have no doubts are those on the side of death. Why is that?

Good point! Felos also thought he was communicating with God in supposedly making that plane start to crash ("three sheets to the moonbeam" -- here) . It wasn't God then, and it wasn't God telling him to kill Estelle Browning.

Maybe it was his "god", the father of lies, the fallen angel who is called satan.
Others like Son of Sam have had voices whispering in their ears, too.
