In the court (and courts) of life and death, a little 11-year-old Massachusetts girl named Haleigh Poutre could be the next Terri Schiavo. For those who have not heard the tragic story, Haleigh was beaten nearly to death last September, allegedly by her adoptive mother and stepfather. The beating left her unconscious and barely clinging to life.
Within a week or so of the beating, her doctors had written her off. They apparently told Haleigh's court-appointed guardian, Harry Spence, that she was "virtually brain dead." Even though he had never visited her, Spence quickly went to court seeking permission to remove her respirator and feeding tube. The court agreed, a decision affirmed recently by the supreme court of Massachusetts.
And so, no doubt with the best of intentions, a little girl who had already suffered so much was stripped by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts of even the chance to fight to stay alive. If she didn't stop breathing when the respirator was removed, which doctors expected, she would slowly dehydrate to death.
Close Call
Then came the unexpected:

>> seems odd to me that they would be included in a picture for a company banner
It's not exactly a formal banner; looks like something they'd rig out for a party or a picnic. Besides, these guys own the law firm, they can do what they please. As of now, Greer and Demers, in that order, are big political pluses on the banner. This is a law firm that has waded deep into politics throughout its history.

"What do you bet that someone smuggled the surveillance tape out of the boot camp where Anderson was killed? That's the kind of thing state employees usually erase. There was your hero at that boot camp to get their hands on the tape and that hero didn't take it to Charlie Crist or DCF which was a wise move."
Anyone who smuggles out tapes, photos, or DVD's of Americans torturing in secret is a hero. Remember how Ike made the German citizens go to the camps and force them to see what was going on there? Those citizens who said, "It can't be happening, this is a civilized country! And even if it is, our democratically elected leader said it's a good thing to do in this time of war and emergency!" Yeah, those citizens. Who will be our Ike?
Speaking of stuff like this - a terrorist at Gitmo who wants to die is force fed, because letting him die of starvation and dehydration is just too cruel a torture. And they call the feeding torture. An innocent person who wants to live must endure torture to death by starvation and dehydration. And they call it compassion.

I love that. It is all my fault! Yes, dear... : )Don't misunderstand my comment. I was referring to not wearing my skin thick enough that day. Some days I can feel badly about myself at the drop of a hat.

Very well put. I'd left their masters out of it this time, but yes, their hand is always present.

Thanks for fully explaining yourself. Now that you have, there's something you should know. The burrito, being sentient, sprouted legs and ran off as fast as it could, singing Polly Wolly Doodle all day.

This bishop also supported Terri, one of the few who was vocal in support.
BAKER Oregon, February 21, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) Robert Vasa, the Catholic bishop of the Oregon diocese of Baker, has written a letter to his diocesan newspaper clearly identifying the so-called pro-choice position among Catholics as a heresy. For decades, many Catholics have argued that primacy of conscience allows them to dissent from basic Church teaching, including the right to life, and still consider themselves good Catholics.

Boot Camp Death: Medical Examiner did autopsy without a license.
"It was disclosed Monday that Siebert was working without a Florida medical license when he signed Anderson's autopsy on Feb. 16. Siebert's license expired Jan. 31. Siebert has said he remembers sending in the renewal paperwork, but does not know if the state received the forms.
Department of Health spokesman Doc Kokol said Siebert renewed his license on Tuesday. Kokol said that while it is not illegal for a medical examiner to let his license lapse, it is illegal to practice medicine without a license by performing autopsies." AP Story
FV SAYS: Fla AG Charlie Crist hasn't uttered a word about law enforcement (five healthy Sheriff employees) and he's Fla's chief law enforcement officer. He wants to be governor? Crist as far as I can tell has not made any statements about the child's suspicious death. He's letting Jeb handle the media. At least Crist is consistent with his absence.

www.northcountrygazette.org has a little info on the law firm in the banner. Remember that Greer was a real estate lawyer, then zoning commissioner before he became a guardianship/probate judge which he admitted back in 93 he knew nothing about (except to pass the bar exam).
He treated Terri like a piece of condemned land, not like a human being.

I shake my head in amazement that this man could be raised from such an irrelevant background and thrust into the power where he could make up his own rules on matters of life and death. What is wrong with the people of Clearwater? (In addition to those we know...)
Reminds me of an old saying, from Pogo, I think...."He who stoops to conquer conquers stupes."

"He treated Terri like a piece of condemned land, not like a human being."
And for him to accept another award, a Pike Award on the anniversary of Terri's death which was caused by Judge Greed - not only is he violating judicial canon 2 but it goes beyond bad taste.
over and out from the triangle. FV

Many people in Tampa Bay are for the Bucs, for the Lightning, for the Storm, a few for the D. Rays... They like their sports and their games.
The culture of death is not of any concern to them as long as they get their beer, wings and pizza.

When challenged that he was putting himself at odds with his fellow bishops, he responded, I answer to the Holy See, I don't answer to the USCCB (Conference of Catholic Bishops).Yay! It's so nice to see that there are some Catholic bishops in the U.S. who know when to call a spade a spade. God bless Bishop Vasa!!

Ping! Don't know if you've seen this post, but the link is a good one about an American Catholic bishop who seems to understand where his loyalty should lie. Just thought you might be interested.
