Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
Do know what they are voting on right now??>
Had to run out but I think it must be on whether to table Cornyn's amendment.
Well...it seems that Sessions and Cornyn are on opposite sides on this vote...
I wish I had been able to listen..so I would know what this amendment said...
Yikes...I don't know what the Cornyn amendment is...but, the dems are voting FOR it...and Sessions voted against it...
SO...I am not liking this much...
I wasn't able to listen to the specifics either, but I did hear Specter say that if it passed it would essentially gut the entire bill. There are good and intelligent people on both sides of this issue so most of the debate I have seen has been good and enlightening.
The vote was to table Cornyn's bill...and that did pass...so I guess Specter is happy..
Cornyns amendment was to NOT use the Fund system...but let the people use the courts..but with very strict requirements..
That WOULD have gutted it.
Are they still debating this bill?
I just got home and turned on the CPAC dinner with Cheney and Allen...
Is there a live thread?
Is there a link to watch?
Cheney already spoke ...George Allen is still coming up...but they are playing Bush's speech between...
There isn't a live thread....and thanks to the link you gave me...maybe I know why.
I looked at the posts on that thread...and all it ended up being was an arguement between freepers in favor of legalizing drugs...and those against.
You saw that I went to the CPAC thread...but, no one was there...so...here I am.
Frist just closed down the Senate...saying that they will be in session tomorrow..NO VOTES...then next week they will continue the Asbestos Bill...and will work hard to get it done BEFORE the PRESIDENT'S DAY BREAK....
Oh...gee...didn't they just get back from and 2 month break??
is it on Cspan ???
Yes...Pat Boone singing now...(not to well, IMHO)...then George Allen.
Thanks .. just tuned in
Well, you didn't miss anything....well, Cheney was on quite a while ago...but, Pat Boone was missable..trust me.
Are you guys watching your guy???
He is doing quite well....
BTW..Did you see the blurb a minute ago that said that democrats at mad that FEMA didn't have a good enough plan for housing for Katrina evacuees....
There was one earlier that said that Kennedy and Feingold are wanting an investigation into the telecom industry's involvement into warrantless wiretapping....GACK
He is. He's letting his hair grow a bit which is nice. The themes are good. I think he needs to take defconw on as an advisor though.
He was a little shaky starting off
But WOW ... did he pull it off
Excellent speech and great quote from Ronald Reagan!
What are they up to know?
I guess if they can't get Bush directly because of the Constitution getting in their way...they will go through corporations that would be hurt by major litigation...
BTW..did you happen to watch Brit's show tonight??
RE: Allen...he sorta did start out kind of awkward...but, being a Bushbot..I am less critical than some would be..LOL
I liked the line item veto...the balanced budget..and even the Paycheck payback..LOL...he also stressed border control, but didn't present a plan.
Bah...I was reading your post, saying that Allen needed to hire defconw...which I wholeheartedly agree with (and I am totally serious)...
BUT, I also think that we should enlist the help of Tony Snow to get on board with George Allen...we know he could help with speeches...but, he could also be a conduit for the message from his fans...and people that do pay a lot of attention to what is happening in Washington.
