sht or get off the pot.

i'm all in favor of statehood. I think that any place that want's to join, and can meet the criteria should petition for statehood.

I agree. But it is up to Congress to give us that choice. Please contact your Congressman.

Ditto. Statehood if they want it. Independence if they want it. The current status shouldn't continue indefinitely.

I agree.

I'm not expert on the situation - but was able to read up on the situation in a class several years ago.

It's time to stop the screwing around by Congress.

The residents of Puerto Rico get three choices:

(a). Independence
(b). Statehood
(c). Territory Status

If they choose Territory Status, it's a binding decision for 50 years. That way, we can avoid having to hold a referendum (for example) every 10 or 15 years.

If they choose Independence...well, good bye and good luck.

If they choose Statehood...welcome aboard.

A final decision needs to be made one way or the other. Enough of the lolly-gagging around by Congress. Final disclaimer: I'm not of Puerto Rican descent nor do I have family or friends there. Nor do I have an economic interest there.

Without reading another post, I will say Puerto Rican state is an ATROCIOUS IDEA!!!

All you need to do is look to the north and take a deep breath of Quebec. Puerto Rico automatically makes a the US a two language country and English only will be gone as a consideration.

Why should they get the choice? I say, leave the decision up to Americans. I would take BC, even with the leftist Vancouver, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, geez even Ontario or the Maritimes before extending the hand of statehood to Puerto Rico.

I'm in favor of statehood for Puerto Rico too if that is the choice of a majority of Puerto Rican citizens.

In the meantime, people should appreciate the contributions Puerto Rico makes to our economy. As an example, many of our pharmaceutical giants have manufacturing facilities there. The present Commonwealth status presents a good option to outsourcing manufacturing to other countries.
