A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day...2-1-06...A letter to My Pets

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Dear Dogs and Cats,

The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate of food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.

The other animals in the house are ALSO family. We do not eat, torture, kill or hurt them. This also goes for “little people”, whom we call children

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.

When I sit at the computer that is NOT your clue to jump in front of the monitor, walk or sit on keyboard or decide to begin licking my face. I know I spend too much time there but give me at least the first half hour.

It is not a good idea to roll in dead “anything” or some other animals poopie. If & when you do, a bath will follow. NOT fun for either of us. Hope you are a fast learner on this one.

For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years - canine or feline attendance is not mandatory.

The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough!

To pacify you, my dear pets, I have posted the following message on our front door:

Rules for Non-Pet Owners Who Visit and Like to Complain About Our Pets:

1. They live here. You don't.

2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. (That's why they call it "fur";niture.)

3. I like my pets a lot better than most people.

4. To you, it's an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly. Dogs and cats are sometimes better than kids .they eat less, don't ask for money all the time, are easier to train, usually come when called, never drive your car, don't hang out with drug-using friends, don't smoke or drink, don't worry about having to buy the latest fashions, don't wear your clothes, and don't need a gazillion dollars for college - and if they get pregnant, you can sell the children.

With thanks from your loving owner

Chachi looks like he might be Corgi and Taco Bell's ankle-biter...sure does have Corgi ears. Corgi's are natural ankle-biters, it is bred in them for herding cattle and originally geese in Wales. They've been around since about 920 A.D. They also used them now for companion dogs, as they are very loyal and always want to stay right by their master.

Dolly you mentioned that you didn't know what they were....well, your new 'lil gal looks to be one. She's beautiful and red-headed to boot. When Trooper was little, we thot that he might turn out a red-headed Tri(his papa was), but it's a good thing with his name of Parkys "H" Troop(Trooper) Stetson, he turned up with a black Stetson on his head. ;-))

We thought about the name of Parkys "H" Troop Scout, but the Sire for the litter was WR the Genuine Stetson and then when I asked Greg what brand of hat the Cavalry wore, he said, "Stetson," ever since the 1800's. The name just seemed to fit better.

Mama_Bear is that the little cutie that you had in the playpen at the
FReeper picnic last Fall? Sure is a cute little rascal and sure has grownl!!

I have a couple red cats & they seem to be much more ornery. Into everything & knocking everything over(they are like me.. klutzy)..

Hi Dolly! Yes, I agree about the orange characters. Mine is full of the dickens but he makes me laugh all the time.

Most cats will come at meow at you when you're tardy for feeding time. My Finbar will come to whatever room I'm in, jump up on a piece of furniture and very methodically start knocking everything off of said peice of furniture onto the floor until I acknowledge the time and get to the kitchen on the double. LOL

That's just one of the things he does. He keeps me in stitches.

The man who had Josy said she is mostly German shepherd. She is 30+ pounds & about half grown. He breeds/shows labs & shepherds & so seems to know a whole lot more than I do !

Thanks for stopping by Victoria.. I have said it before but must restate: You find the neatest graphics.. I know you say you just pull them from the Internet, but they are always exceptional.

Did I hear right (somewhere) that you are a teacher? what do you teach? what level?

I taught Jr - college Phys Ed & Biology right out of college for a dozen odd years. The kids & teaching were okay but all the contrstraits & junk with liberalism involved drove me crazy. I still do some tutoring here & there. Mostly math

Finbar is five years old and has "Kitty Peter Pan Syndrome." He just doesn't want to grow up.

He even still chases his tail when the notion takes him.

And I love him dearly just the way he is. ;-)

Oh my! Love that pix & It looks so much like my Cali!!!! As she is older she is more clingy & has to be wrapped (literally) around my neck. She sits on shoulder or across my chest & puts her paws around my neck. 2nd choice is ON the keyboard/mouse.

Not too spoiled.

Thanks for the pix of your fuzzy daughter!

Our growing up fast kitten that looks like Finbar is the goofiest kitty we have..He also comes often for a petting...

I think that must be another orange cat trait. Finbar is extremely affectionate. He loves to be petted and he has a very loud purr. He purrs frequently.

However, my friends who are looking after him now say he doesn't purr much there, except for when I come to visit. He seems happy there for now, but his little purr-motor doesn't run as much when his "Mama Kitty" is away, I guess.

Leaving my two furry friends behind was probably the hardest thing for me in this little "adventure."

My digital camera has the capability of making those. I'll have to get a clip of furry little him next time I go home.

By next year at this time, my kitties and I will be reunited. ;-)

I had to reluctantly and sadly leave a kitty once in the care of my mother..I got him back within a year and it all worked out fine. We had no place to keep him the first three months after we moved to California and we then returned to Texas in a year's time. He was happy with mom but very happy to see us and move into our new home.
