I've known the Oscars were politically-motivated and irrelevant for years, but it really hit home for me again when Cinderella Man didn't get any nods this year. It's one of the best movies to come out of Hollywood in years, and Russell Crowe deserved an Oscar for his portrayal of Jim Braddock. Of course, he didn't even get a nomination. Guess they were too busy nominating gay-lifestyle movies this year to actually recognize a great movie (IMHO).

Hollyweird also nominated Steven Speilberg's valentine to Palestinian terrorists for Best Picture.
Gay indoctrination and terror apologism. This will most likely be the lowest-rated Oscars of all time.

Braddocks big mistake was not letting his inner queer come thru and start cheating on his wife by having a "relationship" with his hunky sparring partner! Thats Oscar material!

Cinererella was indeed excellent movie, it gave real insights in what it was like living in depression. I don't see how people made it really.

Thanks for the reminder...I knew there was a supposedly-terrific movie I was missing in my Netflix queue! :)

I haven't watched the Oscars in years -- same reasons as everyone else here: too left-wing, too contrived, too boring. This year it hit an all-time low, nominating that fag film, which I know is going to win, being that it's a cause celebre among, ahem, "certain" circles.
I might want to watch some of the Oscars just because -- don't laugh --PRIDE & PREJUDICE got nominated for a few. That, and HARRY POTTER, were the only 2 films I saw last year (besides the documentary on ENRON).
I may want to see CAPOTE & WALK THE LINE, both of which are well acted. And at least those films have some kind of redeeming mesasge or moral voice. Everything else has left me stone cold.

I found it odd as well. But nobody really saw Cinderella Man, which is strange, considering how well received it was by critics and that the story was about the trials of one family, as well as the developing America of the 30's.
But if you're going to make a feel good movie I guess it has to be about a half-retarded man with the greatest run of luck in the history of mankind.

What is going on? I just looked at the list of nominees. I've got nothing against William Hurt, but he was in A History of Violence for like ten minutes before he got wasted. I can't honestly believe Munich got nominated for a best picture. I have nothing against what he was Trying to say, but c'mon, it could have been said in an hour and a half.
And, one more thing: can the Oscars give nomination to more than a bulk of four or five movies. I just can't believe with all the movies that got made this year that there were five worthy of acknowledgment.
