Bush to Say 'America Addicted to Oil' (SOTU Preview)
Associated Press ^ | January 31, 2006 | TERENCE HUNT

Posted on 01/31/2006 2:24:47 PM PST by RWR8189

President Bush, pushing to take charge of the election-year agenda, planned to say Tuesday that "America is addicted to oil" and must break its dependence on foreign suppliers in unstable parts of the world.

In his State of the Union address, Bush was also to renew his commitment to the central pledge of his inaugural address. "Our nation is committed to an historic, long-term goal _ we seek the end of tyranny in our world," he planned to say. "The future security of America depends on it."

Excerpts were released in advance of the 9 p.m. EST speech

Start drilling in ANWR and mining shale oil. Build nuke powerplants. I am on board.

The problem isn't tyranny, the problem is Islam.

If we cannot identify the problem, it will not be fixed.

No, Bush is going to say we are ADDICTED TO WATCHING TURMOIL while discussing America's obsession with "24"!

He's right. Unfortunately for us, democrats will not see this until either oil from the Mideast is held for ransom and used as a bargaining chip for what terrorists want. Then, of course, it will be the fault of Republicans.

Frankly, I'd be behind that.

Open up domestic production, clear regulation on alternative sources, more nukes, more wind (no pissant Nimbys and bird-kill whiners), and on down the line. All the environuts do is keep us dependent on foreign oil by raising the costs of getting our own.

Dems will like the addicted to oil line and spin that to mean Bush is giving up on ANWR (unless he specifically mentions that - doubt it though)

Yes, Zapata Oil, giant of the oil giants. What was their percent of U.S. oil market?

If you kept up your home over the last 10-20 years, you would have earned a higher return than any of the oil giants, without a shred of the risk. If oil is such a racket, then why not just buy their stocks?
