All the Whos down in Whoville liked Judge Alito a lot,
But the Grinch, who lived just north of Whoville, did not.
The Grinch hated Alito the whole judicial nomination season.
Oh, please don't ask why, no one quite knows the reason.
It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight.
Or maybe his head wasn't screwed on just right.
But I think that the best reason of all
May have been that his heart was two sizes too small

If we thought the Alito nomination was a little rough to watch, I suspect the next one will be twice as worse.
What if Stevens or Bader-Ginsburg retire or die?
The Dems will go all-out to keep a conservative jurist from being appointed to one of those seats.
There will be weeping, wailing, gnashing of teeth, foaming at the mouth - and last of all, a definite filibuster.
But, for now, let's enjoy this win.

It's hopeless now, Stevens. Why not get some rest? There will be crushing pressure brought to bear on any liberal SCOTUS justice who tries to retire while there is still a Republican president and congress. Justice Stevens could be in a coma and the liberals would insist that he can't be replaced as long as he's alive. It wouldn't surprise me to see ailing liberal justices with oxygen tanks and IV drips serving on the court during the next 3 years.

That clip of Kennedy campaigning for Clinton in 1995/1996: Rush used to play it on his shows...still cracks me up thinking about it.I must confess, I still have that clip on an old VCR recording of some of Rush's shows. Every now and then, when I need a good laugh, I still pop it in and watch. It's still a hoot.

The Senate Dims should have produced 39 votes or less against. By producing 42 "no" votes ... I have an alternate theory about this. They are saying they have enough Senators to maintain a filibuster, and will go that way if the nominee is not 100% clean. If any dirt can stick at all, they'll filibuster.

Like politicians, what justices say, and what justices do are two different things. Yep. I have high hopes for Alito and Roberts, but I am also a realist -- if they are strict constitutionalists there will be some rulings made that will not be favorable, that is the nature of the beast. I will not argue if the ruling is made according to the constitution, even if it not a ruling that I personally like. I just hope some of our "firebrands" also understand this.

And the greatest fear of the Democrats has been realized.
Not quite. We need 61 solid conservative elected in the senate.

After the vote, FNC showed a clip of Dirty Harry. He decided to inform us of what George Bush should talk about in his State of the Union Address tonight. I believe when he is elected president, he can dictate what is said.
