Honestly, I just can't figure out Chafee. Why is he registered as a Repub? I know he's up for re-election and maybe he's thinking that he's in a very blue state. That, and his vote didn't matter anyway as Alito was going to be confirmed without him. Does he always vote with the left? Maybe in his upcoming election he will actually switch parties as he's not nearly as conservative as his dad.
Are you referring to "Weekend at Bernie's?" It was actually their boss who died on them and they had to pretend he was still alive and carry him around. It was very low level humor with lots of ridiculous physical humor. Of course, I laughed throughout it.
Landrieu and Pryor don't have to run till '08. Lincoln is safe till 2010. They're betting the people will forget, and they're pobably right.
EXACTLY...MY POINT WAS WE HAD BETTER WATCH AND LOOK FOR LIP MOVEMENT WHEN WE SEE THE JUSTICES BECAUSE THE DEMOCRATS MAY BE PULLING A "WEEKEND AT BERNIES"
The thing we want in a challenge to Roe v. Wade is the right for the states to decide by vote whether abortion should be legal in that state. If the majority of the citizens of the state decide that they want abortion to be legal, they will vote accordingly. What is WRONG is for the 9 justices of the Supreme Court to make that decision for the entire country.
IMO, that is about as 'free' as a citizenry can get--the right to decide by vote how they are to be governed.
Just checked DailyKos - for laughs of course - and found a real howler:
A post urging a harder fight, after the Alito defeat, asks rhetorically "Did we give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?"
Well, on a scale of 1 to 10, where they get a 1 for their politics and a 0 for manners, I give them a 2 for History.
"Seriously, I think the priority should be McCain-Feingold. I see that as a clear and present danger to the republic."
With all due respect, I see abortion as a clear and present danger to the unborn. I see that is what the priority should be.
The Constitution isn't at odds with religion. Activist Judges are at odds with the Constitution.
Even our favorite RINO, Oly SNOWE, saw the handwriting on the wall and could see that with four Dem defections and only Chaffee to back her up should she defect, that her vote (which she didn't commit to until just before the call, it seems) could not "Bork" Alito, as I have no doubt she really wanted to do.
Since defection was obviously a study in futility for her real agenda (unlimited abortion forever), she instead played "Republican" and voted with the party in order to throw them (and us) a political bone, and to make us believe that she's at least better than a Democrat in that Senate seat.
Some of us ain't falling for it... but we are among the distinct minority up heah in Maine.
I understand your point of view and respect that, but my opinion of priorities is different from yours (while granting that yours may be the correct one, and mine wrong...)
When 9/11 rolled around, I thought issues such as our national debt took a back seat to our survival.
If we allow our First Amendment rights to take a back seat to anything, we are never going to be able to change anything else to our satisfaction.
SHEETS BYRD COMES THRU IN CLUTCH!!!
Is this related to Riggin's most famous quote? "Lighten up, Sandy baby, you're too stiff."
Running from the left wing KKKs.
