Good morning, all.
Join us today for the final victory lap, the vote to "confirm Samuel Alito, of New Jersey, to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court."
It's all over except the final vote tally.
Lots of surprises yesterday at the HUGE vote to impose cloture, so perhaps there are still some surprise votes to come?
TOPICS: Breaking News; Politics/Elections

Long live Ronald Reagan for giving us such people. And also a nod to Richard Nixon for his leadership in starting so many people on their careers that influenced the path to this day.
I second that.

Great post. I don't agree with your opinion about Chafee though.
any voter in RI who was a single-issue, (choice) voter, woudl NEVER vote for a Republican
You're wrong here. His possible rival in the 2006 election is (was?) Rep. Jim Langevin, one of the few truly pro-life Democrats (and not a Harry Reid/Tom Daschle "pro-lifer") When Langevin announced his intention to run, NARAL and other abortion lovers practically started hyperventilating. If Langevin really decides to run there may be a very interesting race in RI, with pro-life groups endorsing a Democrat and pro-death groups endorsing a RINO.

Whick will drive the DU and Kos nuts thinking if they could just have gotten those numbers on the cloture vote.....It's not a drive -- it's a very short putt.

Am I a bad person for wanting the confirmation vote to be close? My fantasy scenario would be 50-50 with Cheney casting the deciding ballot.

Landrieu & Snowe will both go with Alito.
Rockefeller's been put in a tight spot by Sheets.
I've gotta stick with the 59-41 If all three go, the vote will be 60-40.
You win a dollar for 9 cents if you bet on the 60.

It will highlight Kerry's failure.
Kerry is a loser now:
Lost the campaign for presidency.
Lost miserably at blocking Alito DESPITE a huge investment of personal political capital.

I'd love to see Ann Coulter nominated to the SCOTUS. LOL, can you imagine these confirmation hearings? Of course that's never going to happen but isn't it nice to dream once in a while?

Even more symbolic is he'll be at the SOTU tonight, not in the balcony as some were speculating. LOL!
