Good morning, all.
Join us today for the final victory lap, the vote to "confirm Samuel Alito, of New Jersey, to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court."
It's all over except the final vote tally.
Lots of surprises yesterday at the HUGE vote to impose cloture, so perhaps there are still some surprise votes to come?
TOPICS: Breaking News; Politics/Elections

Pretty funny to suggest "absence of a quorum."

Gives new meaning to the language, doesn't it, when the Chamber probably has more members present than for the past six months at least.

At least one DUer gets it:
Democrats have been losing for 12 years because they no longer stand for anything. "I hate Bush" is not a platform. As long as democrats continue for give quotes, bitch and moan, and demand filibusters without the intent of following through, they will contiue to lose.

Wish I had a limerick about her.
There once was a fat pair of thighs,
Whose limits, she thought, were the skies,
But when she looked down,
No voters around,
So now she just waddles and cries.

Her the voter demographics of the state she represents has changed noticeably since her election. She will probably regret it.She will. I've already called her office.

I tried to login to send sarcasm across the waters over at DU.
This was the response I got:

Ticks me off that the "big name" Dem voters abstain from voting during the final roll call, and then come strolling along 20 minutes later to give their meaningless no.They continue to be obsessed with being "drama queens."

*From the DU thread that Catholic Iowan posted*
-Specter is going to have a lot of explaining to do when he goes home! He voted aye and his district is NOT going to be happy.
and...
-42 oppose....large enough to filibuster. Not a great statement on Alito.
Used to whining, from the looks of things..

You have to get a case worked through the system to overturn a decision - SCOTUS can't just go back and review old decisions out of thin air.
That having been said, let there be a case that allows the overturn of Kelo v NLDC fast-tracked.

I predicted 59-41. I guess I thought Landrieu would vote "aye". In a way I'm glad she didn't, since it'll now be easier to defeat her in 2008.
