Democrats--Over the Cliff?

Democrats--Over the Cliff?

Ronald Reagan used to say he wouldn't go over the cliff with flags flying--just to prove a point. Those wise words seem wasted on Senate Democrats these days. Liberal advocacy groups are pulling out all the stops. Die in the ditch, jump off the cliff, throw a tantrum, how many ways can we describe their futile filibuster plans? Not all Democrats buy into this strategy. Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) says that his party needs "to do a much better job in making the case [to Americans] on these issues." It will be interesting to see if Obama sticks with these commonsense observations--or will they be taken to the liberal woodshed by left-wing bloggers? This entire discreditable episode shows Americans a party captive to its far-left fringe. Why such desperation? The Washington Post today reports efforts in some thirty states to enact "conscience protection" laws for physicians, nurses, and pharmacists. Pro-life, pro-marriage health providers want to be protected from coerced involvement in such matters as abortion, sex-change operations, and physician-directed suicide. These legislative initiatives at the state level are often in response to the imposed radical policies of the courts - activist courts that have been created and protected by liberal senators. They see the pending confirmation of Judge Alito as a major loss in their ability to impose their extremist ideas on the nation.

Eyes on the Prize

All eyes will be on Washington tomorrow night as President Bush delivers his sixth State of the Union Address before a joint meeting of Congress. If the Senate has not confirmed Judge Alito for the Supreme Court by then, I suggest the President introduce Alito and his family from the House gallery. Beltway pundits are all buzzing about what the President will include in this message. I cannot emphasize strongly enough that he must reach out to the Values Voters who put him and so many of his congressional allies in office. No better way could be found than to offer his strong support for protecting marriage. Congress needs to approve the Marriage Protection Amendment and send it to the states for ratification. This won't happen without strong White House backing. In Maryland over the weekend, leading black Democrats broke ranks with their party and said they would not vote against marriage. This issue brings Americans of all races, parties, religions together. Nominating good justices like Judge Alito is one way to assure the grassroots that this Administration is working to rein in activist courts; directly defending marriage is another. Please stand up for marriage, Mr. President. FRC is hosting a State of the Union "watch" party tomorrow night. Will we be cheering? I hope so.

Abuse from HHS Is Unacceptable

We've reported to you in the past the website posted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). It could not have been more overtly pro-homosexuality if the gay advocacy groups had created it. Nothing was said about the profound health risks of the gay lifestyle. These alone cost American taxpayers billions, not to mention the human costs. The website is down now, after repeated protests to Secretary Mike Leavitt. But FRC supporters and other pro-family citizens who emailed HHS with civil criticisms received abusive, anonymous emails in response. What could be more outrageous than this? People whose salaries we pay are threatening and abusing us! This cannot be what it means to be a compassionate conservative. Secretary Leavitt needs to exercise better supervision over his civil servants. And Congress should overhaul HHS' entire approach to the homosexual lifestyle. Simply pushing "tolerance" and passing out condoms have exacerbated the health crisis we have now. Americans deserve a Department of Health and Human Services that focuses on promoting health not a political agenda that seeks to advance the self-destructive behaviors of homosexuality. I would like to know if you received a threatening or inflammatory response from HHS as a result of contacting them.

I've always been amused the Dems have the donkey as their symbol.

It seems soooo appropriate!

There's nothing so brilliant about Osama Obama, he just knows he's going to be around for another 40 years or so, and can afford to take a longer view than the hysterical dinosaur left as led by kennedy and kerry.
