SANTA FE (AP) - Burglars who took 20 rifles from the Santa Fe High School's ROTC program won't be able to do much with them. The ROTC program uses the rifles in drills and ceremonies, but "they're almost like props," Deputy Police Chief Eric Johnson said. "There's nothing they can do to make them work again. They're really no good to anyone but the ROTC unit."
The rifles were taken Saturday by someone who entered through a roof hatch, Johnson said. The burglars first tried to get in through a heating vent, leaving $2,000 in damage, he said.

Idiots.
Check the pawn shops in San Francisco.
I don't think that will matter when they are sentenced for the crime.
Almost.
It won't be a laughing matter when some really hip team "brings it" and sweeps all the other teams out of the next Drum & Bugle Corps competition.
But the DUmmies that stole them can still shoot themselves in the foot.
Too much blue for maroon. Ought to be equal parts red and black.

Look for the 'Burglar Silent Drill Team' at the next parade near you!
Did the burglars all stop at the ink shop and get a
Maroon Tattoo?
Possibly the most ominous theme I've ever heard, ranks
right up there with the Darth Vader theme.
Other schools should be quivering in their shoes when
it's played.
Well, it depends, the parts would be worth something,
if they were Garands or Springfields, even the receivers
would bring a nice price.
I've always thought the 'Emperor's March' from Star Wars was the perfect musical backdrop to the annual May Day Parade in Red Square.
Waaaay back when I was in high school, we had ROTC rifles that were for parades. They had the firing pin removed. Other than that, I don't think that anything was wrong with them. They could be dismantled and reassembled like a regular rifle. It would be easy to fix that. However, it would be pretty hard to hide them. The metal was chrome plated (or maybe nickel plated). Made for a pretty garish gun.
Hey, if a university says its maroon, it's gotta be maroon.
Bang! You're dead.
Nuh-uh! I got you first. Pow, pow! Now you're dead!
I got a secret bulletproof t-shirt.
Uh-uh! They don't make those.
Well, they made one for me. Rat-a-tat-tat! Got you with my machine gun.
Oh,no you din't. That's just an almost fake ROTC almost prop rifle that can't hurt nobody.
Clang! It hurts if I smack you in the head with it, don't it?
Universities say a lot of things of questionable veracity. Maroon is red and black. I used to mix it in equal parts, but there is some room for taste there.
I was kidding, btw.
Ah, I see.
Do you do some raytracing? I noticed that the link appeared to relate to that sort of thing.
Sorry, I just typed maroon into the google image search. But now I'm curious to know what raytracing is.
