I am going to purchase an AK-47. I was wondering who makes the best one? I am also curious as to what to look for as far as wear and tear.
You just came off as being unknowledgeable because you responded to the question "Whats the best AK-47?" with an answer that included describing that one as being one of "machine gun quality." In reality the civilian Kalashnikov rilfes like the Krebs, VEPR K, and Arsenal rifles are reputed to have a much high degree of quality than their select fire brethren. Fit, finish, and not to mention the triggers are so much better on these rifles.
OK.
What I was trying to get across, but didn't, was that a person interested in a "historic" working weapon would (most likely) not be interested in that kind of "modernized" or modified weapon such as the "civilian Kalashnikov rilfes like the Krebs, VEPR K, and Arsenal rifles" you mentioned.
What I didn't understand was that the original writer wasn't at all worried about 'authenticity" but just wanted a weapon. (Comes from running around with too many blacksmith and hunsmiths who work with Civil War and such weapons. That kind of person tends to not want a modern machine-tooled "copy" of a Springfield or Enfield or Sharps.
Oh well. Miss some sometimes. Still think an AK isn't the best for home defense in the hands of anybody but a full-time shooter with lots of automatic/quick-reaction fire experience..
The original poster made no mention of intending to use it for home defense.
Well I just got my brand new wasr-10.I have to clean it up a bit and then tomorrow I'll break it in. Thanks to all hear for your inputs.

So, how did your Romanian WASR-10 work out? (curious)
Mikhail Kalashnikov designed the ak-47 in 1947 for the Russian Army. Since that time, it has the become the most widely used rifle in the world.
AK’s are made in several countries. Mine was made in Yugoslavia. Most AK’s that you will find in the USA are from China. You’ll find them for as little as $175 for a decent used Chinese Ak to about $550 for a nearly new Yugoslavian version. Be sure it’s not an SKS. It should say AKS or AK-47 on the reciever. Be sure it’s chambered for 7.62 X 39mm ammo.
They’re so easy to fix and upgrade, and parts so readily available, you really can’t go wrong. Focus on price.
And remember, a man can change the world with one well placed bullet.
Are you serious? The guy has a valid question about an AK47. our founding fathers specifically wrote the constutution and talked about it thoroughly in the federalist papers. Be it an AK47, An AR15 or a long range sniper rifle. Our founding fathers meant for the citizenry to have the weapons to keep the people on an even playing field as the federal government and to keep the federal government in check. If the federal government becomes tyranical, Are you going to keep them in check with a vote or your bolt action long range hunting rifle? the government will mow all over you. Only with small arms such as AK’s or AR’s can we be prepared if that ever occures.
/falls out of chair
I have many guns including AR15’s ak47’s and some remington 700 snipers in .308 and 30-06. The best AK47 i have ever shot other than an actual kalishakov that i thought was very accurate and reliable was either the Yugoslavian M70 ak47 or the Vepr. the proplem is that most Ak47 are shipped with the front site too high, so they are innacurate and get a bad rap for being innacurate. If you adjust the front sight then they can be just as accurate as any ar-15.
Where are they illegal besides new york and Massachusettes and possibly california. I think you forgot that the assault weapons ban is over. Seriously guys, as long as someone want to practice theyre god givin right to keep and bear arms....what does it matter what kind of gun he wants?
Im not sure...I have an armalite and a rock river arms ar-15. I also have a yugoslavian M70 ak47 and a vepr AK. After adjusting my front sights to near accuracy, both My Ak’s are just as accurate as my Ar’s at 200 yards, AK’s are cheaper, the ammo is more powerful and more damaging and the ak is much more reliable. I like my Ar’s though but in a survival situation...I would want my Ak’s.
Because they are extremely reliable, Accuracy is awsome if you adjust the front sights, and ammo is much more powerful than AR15 .223 ammo. Thats why
I own an rock river and an armalite....yes they are damn good guns. But I own two ak47’s...a Yugo M70 and a Vepr. They are both just as accurate as my Ar’s because i adjusted the front sights. My ak’s are much more reliable that my ar’s and the 7.62x39mm ammo is much more powerful than the .223 in my ar’s. I would choose my ak’s over my ar’s in a survival situation anyday.
This thread is 2 years old. I’m sure he probably got one by now.
Welcome to FR.
I can’t take the term “pray and spray” anymore. That term refers to an automatic weapon;in which, you have to have a special license for. Some AK’s are better ther others.Bulgarian,Eygptian and Chinese are good.Stay away from Romanians! These are semi-autos,so therfore, you must aim then shoot.
Congratulations on revealing who some of the morons are around here. There are tons of gun forums that can help you out. Enjoy it when you get it.
Thanks for having me assist you in this dead thread resurrection.
