Bull charges bullfight spectators

People at a Mexican bullfighting ring try to stop a bull after it jumped into the stands

At least two people are being treated in hospital in Mexico City after a bull leapt into a crowd during a bullfight.

The half-ton bull - named Parajito or Little Bird - breached the safety barrier and landed on the fans.

The rampage ended when a fight participant entered the stand and killed the animal with his sword.

Mexico City's bullring was built 60 years ago and is one of the biggest in the world, with a capacity of 48,000.

Television images of the bullfight showed the beast jump over the heads of journalists and into the most expensive seats at the capital's vast ring.

One woman spectator received a six-inch (15-cm) gash in her chest.

The bullfight resumed 30 minutes after the incident. Little Bird is the first bull in the ring's history to jump into the crowd.

but the bull is not leaving alive, regardless of what happens.

Hate to see people get hurt, but I'd prefer the Portagee
version. PBR is another matter, bulls get points
and a chance to return, refining their skills tossing Moraes off before the buzzer..

I do believe that anyone who gets pleasure out of watching something fight and suffer is twisted and sick.

That's why I asked. No, I did not remember your growing up on a farm.
My point was, if you eat beef or poultry, to many you are "sick".

Sickness is in the eye of the beholder, so unless we're talking medical things, I avoid the word.

Bullfighting is suspenseful despite the fact that you know the bull will lose. The Mexicans and Spanish have a route on how well the bullfighter does. For a great fight (clean kill with artful moves) the bullfighter gets both ears and a tail. He gets less if less clean and artful.

I spent a lot of time in Texas and have seen bullriding and that seemed to be risky, but not as risky as bullfighting

When I was announcing bull ridings, we had a south Texas stock contractor with a bull that could jump a six foot wall. He did that, twice, though both times he was out in a parking lot. There were fans out there, and I was yelling at them to seek some shelter inside their vehicles. The stock owner retired that bull, that weekend.

Six years ago or so, a rank horned bull jumped over the back of the bucking chute he was in and ran out into the hallway of Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth under the seating area. He trashed a souvenir stand and hooked a woman spectator waiting for a beer. She wasn't hurt badly, but she sued the City of Ft. Worth (which owns the coliseum).

A guy on horseback finally caught up to the bull, roped him around the horns and dragged him back into the arena.

No dispute there. Just like a slaughterhouse.

But I was disputing the notion that the Matador is not at risk.

I wish he'd gotten away... I hate bullfighting, I'm always rooting for the bull.

Bullfighting is nothing less than barbaric.

I agree 100% with both of these statements

Wow... the guy on horseback was a brave guy.

That was the only way to get him, short of shooting him, and the stock contractor was not going to let that happen.

A bull will charge a horse, and in that strange environment, with the bull already scared, yes, he was brave and taking a big chance.

I asked the contractor after the rodeo why he didn't send his two heelers after the bull. He said he would have if he would have thought of it.

I've watched bulls snap-to and move like a rocket when a heeler gets near it. A good dog like that can work a whole herd of bulls almost by itself.

I've watched a heeler work a bull too. And I was really impressed. A friend was renting a bull to breed his cows, and the heeler brought the bull about a mile down a quiet country road, turned him up the lane and put him in the pasture :~D

Course, the bull wanted to go in there.. them cows were callin' him :~D

It's innate to those cow dogs, once they've nipped a bull or cow on the lower back leg, to crouch down so that the bull kicks out over them. But bulls that are worked by dogs all the time don't even need to be snapped; they just move in the opposite direction of the dog.

Yes, I have seen those. They are far from "maiming" it and barely pierce the flesh. Those barbed mini-spears are mainly to show the prowess of the matador, ie that he can get close without being hurt.

A bull will charge a horse . . .
Bulls in Spain have been known to charge a motor car and even, getting onto the tracks, to stop a train, refusing to back up or leave the track when the train stopped and when, with much blowing of the whistle the train finally advanced, charging the engine blindly.

— Hemingway, Death in the Afternoon.

I stand by what I said. I think there is something twerked in a human mind that gets pleasure from watching something suffer.

I don't want to kiss someone with a wad of tobacco in their mouth, I dont' want to fly sitting next to someone who hasn't bathed in a week and I don't want to get stuck in an elevator with an ax murderer on his way to a 'job'.

If you think it's OK, cool. Just understand, if in RL you lived next door to me, we wouldn't become close friends :)

While it's true that bulls, like any prey animal, have a much higher pain tolerance than we do, the barbs have to penetrate the muscle or they wouldn't stay in, with the weight and drag of those pennants on it. They would make movement painful no matter who you ask.
