I am a documentary fan. I will even sit through bad documentaries, except anything put out by Mikey Moore, but I stumbled upon a gem a few days ago on television. It is called, Being Caribou.
The premise was that these two canucks, male and female, would follow the migration of the Porcupine Herd of Caribou on their migration route in Alaska. No red flags were up yet, but then they said that they were going to do it on foot and I noticed right away that they had a 15" doll of President Bush strapped onto one of the backpacks. More on that later, so enter red flags.
I have lived, worked, hunted, and explored Alaska, and I knew that only The Bionic Man could follow a major herd on foot during their migration. By the way, these nuts spent over 100 days doing this. As the story started to unfold, I noticed half-truths, exagerations, and downright lies about what they were saying and doing.
The first example was that they were actually claiming they were following a group of the herd, but the Caribou's coat colors, hair amounts, and antler growth were not matching up to the timeline. That is insult enough, but then they admitted that they were one day falling behind the herd, so they opted for a shortcut to head them off on a certain hilltop overlooking a valley. Gee, if there was a shortcut on the Caribou's migration route and they have been migrating for thousands of years, wouldn't the Caribou actually know the shortcut themselves? Just as I thought, no Caribou showed up, so they "formulated another plan". This dribble went on and on, until at the end, they admitted that the entire reason they were highlighiting the Caribou, was because President Bush and his oil buddies were going to drill for oil up there and wipe out this herd. In tears, the female actually claimed that they had perhaps caught the last footage of these Caribou actually migrating.
The show stopper was near the end of the film when they stumbled upon a cow Caribou dying a natural death, like most wild animals do, while standing in a creek bed. The poor cow was fighting to stay on her feet and swaying her last moments away, while being tormented by millions of blackflies. The guy had the nerve to say outloud that if a protection area for these Caribou was set up, that they would not suffer like this and most of them would not die a cruel death.
That was it for me. I ran to the computer to search for these idiots and of course there is no email link, but they did supply their home address.
The George Bush doll was used as a prop to mockingly emphasize that the President was finally visiting the area. I swear, Canadians like these are a bunch of naughty, rebellious children. They have all the time in the world to throw fits and criticize the world, because their parents to the South keep them safe and secure. They have no debts of freedom to pay. Also not lost, Mikey Moore has inspired a legion of leftist nuts to make documentaries with bad data, just to make a point. There main source for claims that the Porcupine herd is actually endangered, is a Canadian biologist no doubt, who is experienced with this particular herd, but is also a tree hugger. I think I will send them a letter or even print out this post and mail it to them, so if you are bored, please share your thoughts.
My thoughts...
I think the caribou might appreciate the roads that we'll be putting in. It would make their long commute easier. I also think the caribou would appreciate the added safety men bring along with them when building sites. Predators pose a safety issue for workers. Predators are chased away or killed if they attack.
If the caribou don't increase because we're there, I'd be surprised.
Not to mention the nice heat off the oil pipes.
This is nothing. You should see the OTHER documentaries that are being produced by the left.
They interview the enemies of the USA in Iraq. They claim they are innocent and never disclose their are al queda.
They do looney documenties of regarding stolen elections because "the result was wrong."
Where are the conservative documentaries?
Even the history chanel did a documentary on lincon and some WACKO had to give his dig against bush by saying the "war on terror" is not a real war because it is different from previous wars.
