Good Monday morning, fellow Freeper political junkies. One of the more ridiculous episodes of political theater is about to play itself out on the Senate floor, as the John Kerry-led democrats mount an exercise in political futility which will further expose their total irrelevance..So join us today, or drop in on occasion, for the festivities...

You nailed it my fellow freeper. There is no other Republican President in modern history who has wrecked so much destruction on the democrats and liberals as President Bush has done since 2001. That is why they hate him in such a horrifying way.

Flowers blooming in Montana? FGS, don't tell Gore!

Yeah, whatever you do, don't tell Gore! The vein on his forehead is big enough to tow a car with!

I'm not sure what the deal is with Rockefeller. He's ultra-liberal and I can't believe he'd vote for Alito.

He voted for Roberts, and he hails from the same state as Byrd.

I won't be surprized to see 60 votes for Alito.

and Dorgan on the record, somewhere, as against ...

Is that the Dorgan that the GOP allowed to run unopposed in a state where GWB got 63% of the vote?

THAT Dorgan?

LOL here at that visual. Oh never mind, his sweat and spit slinging just came into the vision.

You need to change the number on your tagline to 62,040,610 :) This is the number of the great Americans who re-elected President Bush.

Thank you for the explanation. I wonder what Cboldt thinks?

More on vote pairing ...

Pairing is announced (which means the paired Senators are "there"), and where there are sufficient Senators present who have announced their pairs and, therefore, withheld their votes, the Presiding Officer has held that a quorum was present for the transaction of business.

So, "pairing" is a way to reduce the number of votes cast and permits Senators to hide which of the pair is on which side of an issue. That's about all it's good for, by my first reckoning on the subject.

Thanks. I suppose he had a reason for it, but wish Frist would have pushed for tonight (though Ensign wouldn't have been able to vote)

Thanks for the ping...... Sorry I missed the action today but I've been on the road since 5am taking some vehicles to Laredo and just got home a few minutes ago.

Sounds like Alito will get his vote tomorrow regardless of what the liberal democrats wanted..... Bet there were some gnashing of teeth as this came about...

Oh, what happened to the prognostication about the Alito filitusted going to happen and yada yada yada...... Some of these so called political experts who think they have inside sources need to enjoy their crow.....

You're correct, I was recalling some of the back to back.
How nice of the Pubbies to let the Dims save face and give them cover, yet again. I'm sure if it comes up in "Spin Alley" after the SOTU, if not sooner, the Dims will try to spin their way out of this. Just got home so will try to glean what I can out of some of the posts on this thread -WOW are there a lot!

I"m writing this without finishing the thread or knowing what happens, but up to this point, Specter has repaid Bush 100% for Bush's support in the general election, and if Chaffee votes for cloture, as he said he would, that shows you the CRITICAL importance of winning the seats, even with a wimp.

You are so right!

You nailed it with your tagline. Hate is a loser.

GWB doesn't hate anybody. I don't either; although I admit that, after making Mrs. Alito cry, I don't feel too badly about all those losers on the Left crying their eyes out tonight.

72-25. What a devastating loss after Lurch made such a BFD about his filiswisster. I remember how angry we all were last spring when the "gang of 14" robbed us of victory; the 'Rats deserved to be nuked. However, 72-25 w/ 17 'Rats deserting the sinking swift boat is much better than a nuke.

The 'Rats aren't a very pious bunch, but I'll bet they start hitting the knees every night praying that no more SCOTUS Justices leave the bench. It's bad enough for them that they are losing their last grip on power; even worse is how horrible they look trying to stop it. Ted, in particular, looks like an old Bolshevik trying to hold onto power as age and booze takes him over.

Can't wait until tomorrow for the final vote with "Big Dick" in the chair. GWB nominated the man; Big Dick Cheney will announce the result. Life just doesn't get any better!

It's also useful if a Senator has a pressing engagement such as a meeting with a particularly hot lobbyist who's wishes to use her personal charms to influence a Senator. Since such lobbying can be "bipartisan", Senators will help each other out on this.

But enough about Senator Mikulski.

I think it isn't useful to cover an absence. I think an absent Senator can't pair.
