Via Instapundit:

Almost two-thirds of Americans (63%) consider illegal immigration a “very serious” or “extremely serious” problem in the United States, according to a TIME Poll. The majority (74%) believes the U.S. is not doing enough to secure its borders. . . .

TIME’s Poll shows that half (50%) of Americans favor deporting all illegal immigrants back to their home countries (45% oppose). Three-in-four (76%) favor allowing illegal immigrants in the U.S. to earn citizenship if they learn English, have a job and pay taxes. . . . Meanwhile 700,000 undocumented immigrants from around the world continue to enter the U.S. each year, according to the Pew Hispanic Center.

And the other half think the meaning of "law" depends on what you mean by "is".

In L.A., we have half of the illegal alien population of the entire country. We cannot build schools fast enough. When they show pictures of grammar school kids on TV, it is 100% latino student population.

That is not multiculturalism, that is a take over.

Calipornia's problem at the state level is that they do not allow hospitals, welfare agencies, etc., to ask questions about citizenship.

Compare this to Florida where NO ILLEGAL can get ANY services, other than through non-profits (largely run by the Catholic Church in many cases). It all depends on what state you live in.

Even if the Fed won't get off its a-s on the immigration issue, at least Calipornians could force their legislature to reform their welfare laws. Prop. 187 was a good start, but it was poorly written.

CA welfare agencies do ask for applicants for welfare to provide citizenship.

No, I haven't. But, if a local officer is traveling on a state highway and he sees something that is illegal or dangerous, isn't he at least obligated to notify the state highway patrol officers of the situation so that they can get involved? If what you are suggesting is true, then a police officer from Davidson County, TN. can come upon a deadly wreck in another county or somewhere else out of his "jurisdiction" and simply pass by and not even notify another member of law enforcement who might have jurisdiction?

Sounds screwed up to me.

No. What I am saying is a local PO cannot cite a person on a state highway for speeding. It would lack jurisdiction.

That is why we have so many illegal aliens on welfare.

If they get it illegally, they are prosecuted. Prove otherwise.

Send them all home. The only reason they baby is a citizen is by an Illegal act. Send them all home. And make them pay for their medical expenses while we are at it.

How many of those anchor babies are born gratis. At taxpayer expense.

Mexico tells all women with difficult pregnancies to come to the U.S., because we are foolish enough to pay for everything.

"..born here as according to the law"...Sure, and that would be the mantra for Illegal Alien Sympathizers who support the Anchor Baby Scam.

Absorb this."At the time the Fourteenth Amendment was ratified we didn't have immigration laws. One hundred and thirty eight years later we are paying for the misinterpretation of it."

You keep posting "according to the law", yet totally ignore the fact that these babies are born because the mother BROKE our law by being here illegally in the first place. That conveniently flys right over your head.

If you insist we should keep rewarding those who break the law and abuse our system, you are in the minority.

Of course they get welfare (assistance). Anyone who says otherwise is disconnected.

Read this from Oregon:

Low-wage earners in this country illegally cannot support a family any better than a citizen can, so they turn to our generous safety net of social welfare benefits. Nobody may ask if they are citizens when they apply for benefits. When the Mexican consulate held a day to issue Matricula Consular cards to illegals in Oregon, for instance, state agencies were invited, and attended, to direct them to services available to them.

Oregon is one of the states that only requires a minimum of identification to get drivers' licenses. When you get a driver's license you may also sign up to vote. Nobody asks if you are here legally. State agencies justify their budgets and solidify their power when they serve more people".
