Social security number and proof of residence. SS cards are usually fraudulently used. Everything is for sale, even fraudulent birth certificates.
Electronic finger print identification would help.
No whistleblower laws until later, but later I did see one whistleblower set up with illegal drugs found in his desk and locker....
Okay, I'll be more concrete. Most of the incidences were known about after the fact, but the few I knew about in advance were defintely reported. A State Senator was a family friend.
How would that help? Is there a national registry of US Citizens fingerprints? Are you fingerprinted?

I know this is a little off the subject of fingerprinting(and yes, in Ga you have to give one fingerprint to get your driver license.) But I've been thinking about the announcement that the Border Patrol was going to stop the Catch and Release of OTMs. Now I agree with this completely. But I don't think that the taxpayers should have to foot the bill of sending them home. If they are caught coming across the Mexican Border then we should send them back back into Mexico and inform them that they will be put in a tent jail or shot trying to cross back into the USA. I bet Mexico would stop a lot of the OTMs from coming into their country. Just a thought.
I think that they can get benefits of some kind if they give birth to a child here. I work in a grocery store, and a representative with the WIC program said that one doesn't have to be legally in this country to get benefits from this agency. If a woman is here illegally but has a child here, then she is qualified to receive vouchers that will pay for milk, cheese, baby formula, cereal, eggs, etc.. A lot of these gals come in with a boyfriend who no doubt lives with them, but are only able to qualify for the voucher because they state on the application that they are single. This is one of the biggest frauds out there today. Folks are getting food stamps, welfare and WIC in some cases because the gov't thinks that they are single with no means to pay for life's essentials. When I see these women, they are usually accompanied by a very healthy looking man (no rings) who no doubt could get off his dead rear end and take some responsibility.
The waste and fraud just boggles my mind, not to mention how angry I become when I think of how many US tax dollars are being eaten up by these freeloaders.
Under your highly, ahem, "original" form of mathematical analysis, would you be able to accept even 100% as sufficient to constitute a "supportable position" for the Republicans, once you subtract from that 100% the democrats, the liberals, the Communists, the Republicans who hate Bush, the Bushites who don't vote, the Wobblies...
I live in a liberal state. I am surrounded by liberals. Some of these liberals hate illegal immigration. Some of these same liberals would never vote for a Republican even if that Republican supported random ID checks at their places of employment by ICE agents.
I know these people. The math wasn't original.

That's correct. What else do you propose? Taking US citizen children and putting them in foster homes and deporting their illegal parents back to whatever is their home country? If not, what else you propose?
